The CSR Journal Magazine

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency on May 18, following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) significant victory in the recent state assembly elections. During his visit, he engaged with local residents and party workers, expressing gratitude for their overwhelming support and the electoral mandate received by the BJP. This interaction served to reinforce the party’s commitment to the constituency and its constituents.

Commitment to Security and Legal Action

During his address to the supporters in Bhabanipur, Chief Minister Adhikari emphasised the government’s dedication to fulfilling its political promises. He specifically highlighted plans to enhance border security and take action against illegal infiltrators. “I will not bow down. The BJP’s Chief Minister will fulfil the commitments made by the party. The government will prioritise the safety of the country,” he stated. He claimed that illegal infiltrators had been identified and removed from the voter list, and asserted that the time had come to proceed with their deportation.

In addition to border security, Adhikari declared that his administration would adopt stringent legal measures against corruption and gender-based violence. He affirmed the state’s determination to address atrocities against women, indicating the establishment of a judicial oversight mechanism. Adhikari specifically mentioned that steps would be taken to ensure accountability for crimes against women under the leadership of IPS Damayanti Sen and committee member Justice Sampati Chatterjee.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister positioned the BJP as a party committed to protecting the rights and safety of women, pledging that no individual involved in criminal activities would escape legal repercussions. His administration aims to establish a secure environment for all, reflecting the party’s broader agenda for governance in the state.

Allegations of Corruption

In his address, Adhikari also voiced serious allegations of corruption against specific individuals in the region. He revealed that he had flagged four names to the appropriate authorities for investigation, linking them to substantial property holdings. The individuals allegedly involved include Raju Naskar from Beleghata with 18 properties, Sona Pappu from Kasba with 24 properties, and Abhishek Banerjee, who reportedly possesses 24 properties. Additionally, he mentioned Javed Khan’s son, who is alleged to own 90 properties.

The Chief Minister characterised these individuals as having profited unlawfully at the expense of the public, reiterating his party’s commitment to addressing corruption. He indicated that the BJP administration would take necessary legal action against those identified, stating, “In the coming days, the BJP government will legally put these corrupt individuals behind bars.” This declaration demonstrates the government’s intent to combat corruption effectively.

As the electoral mandate strengthens the BJP’s position in West Bengal, the Chief Minister’s announcements reflect an assertive approach towards governance. With specific plans for deporting illegal infiltrators and rooting out corruption, the government appears focused on implementing its agenda to enhance security and uphold legal accountability in the state.
