UP Pushes Fast-Track Development as Mega Expressways, Airports and Irrigation Projects Near Completion

The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday reiterated that large-scale infrastructure and development projects are rapidly transforming the state into a major centre of economic growth, investment and employment. Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister stressed that completing all ongoing projects in a time-bound and quality-driven manner remains the government’s top priority.

Ganga Expressway to redefine connectivity

Reviewing progress on the ambitious Ganga Expressway, Adityanath directed officials to ensure that construction is completed by the end of February. Stretching over 594 kilometres, the expressway will pass through 12 districts and directly benefit more than 500 villages, significantly strengthening road connectivity across the state. The Chief Minister said the Ganga Expressway would serve as a strong backbone for industrial, agricultural and logistics activities, opening new avenues for economic development along its route.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the expressway is being developed in accordance with modern technical standards. Road quality testing is being carried out using parameters such as the roughness index and riding comfort index. High-standard wayside amenities, rest areas, road safety features, advanced signage and access-controlled systems are also being developed to ensure a safe and efficient travel experience.

Irrigation projects to boost farm income

The Chief Minister also reviewed key irrigation initiatives, including the Middle Ganga Canal Project (Stage-2). Emphasising the importance of irrigation in increasing agricultural production and farmers’ income, Adityanath said such projects play a vital role in strengthening the rural economy. Officials stated that upon completion, the project will expand irrigation facilities across large agricultural areas in Amroha, Moradabad and Sambhal districts.

During the review of the Erich irrigation project, which focuses on the Bundelkhand region, officials highlighted its role in water conservation, irrigation support and drinking water availability. The project is expected to stabilise agricultural activities and improve water resource management. The Chief Minister directed authorities to immediately resolve pending issues and complete incomplete works without delay.

Energy security for industrial growth

Adityanath also reviewed hydroelectric projects in the Rihand and Obra regions, underlining that strengthening energy security is essential for sustained industrial development in Uttar Pradesh. Officials informed that pump storage-based projects in the Rihand-Obra area would help meet future energy requirements and enable more effective utilisation of renewable energy resources, contributing to long-term power stability.

Jewar airport and logistics hubs in spotlight

The Chief Minister reviewed progress on Noida International Airport at Jewar, directing officials to complete the land acquisition process for Phase-3. Calling the airport a future hub of global connectivity, investment and employment generation, Adityanath said it would open new possibilities for Uttar Pradesh as a major air cargo centre. Officials stated that with the operation of the first phase, the airport will provide modern facilities to more than one crore passengers annually.

In addition, the Chief Minister reviewed the multimodal logistics hub and multimodal transport hub projects in Greater Noida. He instructed officials to expedite approvals and maintain continuous coordination with central ministries for associated railway infrastructure. Strengthening logistics infrastructure, he said, would reduce costs for industries and position Uttar Pradesh as a key manufacturing and supply-chain hub.

Focus on education and urban infrastructure

Adityanath also assessed progress under the Chief Minister Model Composite School scheme, calling it a forward-looking initiative to strengthen a modern and holistic education system. Under the scheme, 150 model schools will be established across 75 districts, featuring modern classrooms, science laboratories, digital learning tools, sports facilities and co-educational infrastructure. He directed officials to speed up land selection and construction work to ensure timely implementation.

The meeting also highlighted the need to accelerate work on the Chilla Elevated Flyover and reviewed developments related to the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor and the expansion of rail connectivity across eastern Uttar Pradesh. Together, these projects underline the state government’s push to build a robust infrastructure ecosystem aimed at long-term economic growth and inclusive development.
