The Gujarat government has committed Rs 301 crore for preparations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, as conveyed during the state assembly session on September 10, 2026. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, overseeing the Sports and Youth Services portfolio, disclosed this information in a written response to a query raised by Congress MLA Amit Chavda. The allocation underscores the state’s intention to adequately prepare for this significant international sporting event.

Sanghavi highlighted that out of the total funding, Rs 200 crore has been earmarked specifically for the payment of the host fee. This financial commitment positions Gujarat firmly as the host state for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, with the necessary financial groundwork laid out to facilitate a successful event.

Furthermore, Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi confirmed that Gujarat has officially secured the hosting rights for the Commonwealth Games. The state has already executed the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA) and completed the payment related to the host fee, as detailed in the assembly proceedings. This sets the stage for extensive preparations over the coming years.

Amdavad Commonwealth Games Organisation Established

In an effort to streamline the organisation of the Games, the Gujarat government has founded a company dubbed “Amdavad 2030 Commonwealth Games Organisation.” This new entity has been registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, following a resolution passed on August 12, 2026. The formation of this organisation is intended to oversee the meticulous planning and management required for hosting the Games.

The establishment of the organisation represents a strategic move to ensure that preparations are comprehensive and systematic. This body will be responsible for managing sporting events, coordinating venue management, and handling other logistical arrangements necessary for the successful hosting of the Games. By creating a dedicated organisation for this purpose, the Gujarat government aims to enhance efficiency in the planning process.

In the preceding year alone, the government has allocated Rs 100 crore under the revenue section for activities related to the Commonwealth Games. Additionally, Rs 1 crore has been designated as a preliminary provision under the capital expenditure, reinforcing the commitment to providing adequate resources for the event. This financial planning reflects a proactive approach to organising a major international sporting competition.

Consultations with Various Organisations Underway

The Gujarat government has initiated consultations with various stakeholders, including Commonwealth Sport, the Indian Olympic Association, and pertinent international sports federations. These consultations are pivotal for aligning the state’s preparations with the expectations and standards set for the Commonwealth Games, ensuring that the event meets international norms.
