Apple Hikes Older iPhone Prices by Up to 20% in India Post-iPhone 18 Pro Launch

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent launch of the iPhone 18 Pro has led to a notable shift in pricing for existing iPhone models. Traditionally, consumers in India benefit from price reductions on older models following the release of new devices. However, this year, Apple has deviated from this trend, raising prices by up to 20 per cent instead. As a result, buyers seeking the iPhone 17 will now find the device listed at Rs 99,900, a significant rise of Rs 17,000 from its previous price of Rs 82,900.

Such changes have sparked considerable interest among consumers, as many were anticipating discounts on older models. The best time to purchase an iPhone was reportedly yesterday, but prospective buyers still have avenues to explore. The iPhone 18 Pro series will officially go on sale on September 18, while the iPhone Duo is set to be available in October.

With the market dynamics shifting due to the price adjustments, consumers keen on acquiring an older iPhone model may need to act promptly as stocks diminish rapidly.

Limited Availability of Older Models

Many retailers have reported limited availability of older iPhone models following the announcement of price increases. A staff member from Reliance Digital indicated that billing for all iPhone models had been paused due to the recent price changes. They suggested contacting the store again on the following day for updates on stock levels.

At Croma, another electronics retailer, representatives confirmed that they currently had no stock of iPhones available for purchase. Meanwhile, Vijay Sales claimed to have the iPhone 17 Pro Max in stock, priced at Rs 1,72,900, up from its previous launch price of Rs 1,49,900. This adjuster was attributed to the recent price changes implemented by Apple.

Despite these challenges, some retailers still offer older models at their original prices, provided that their stock remains. Authorised Apple resellers like Imagine and iPlanet confirmed the availability of the iPhone 17 Pro at its launch price of Rs 1,34,900. Some outlets reportedly still have the iPhone 17 for Rs 82,900, but this pricing is only available while supplies last.

Future Price Increases Anticipated

As competition among retailers remains evident, some stores emphasised that older prices would increase once new stocks arrived. Retailers with existing inventory of the iPhone 17 have made clear that price hikes are forthcoming, further complicating the purchasing decision for consumers. Those interested in acquiring the iPhone 16, meanwhile, should be prepared to pay Rs 89,900, although stock availability appears limited at this time.

The adjustment in pricing and limited stock has generated urgency among consumers eager to obtain older iPhone models before further increases take effect. Individuals looking to purchase an iPhone may find themselves needing to visit various retailers to secure a model at the unchanged price.

Overall, the response from the market to the new pricing structure has been mixed, as buyers weigh their options amid fluctuating availability and increasing costs. With consumers awaiting deliveries of newly launched products, the dynamics of the iPhone market continue to evolve.
