Actor Bipasha Basu has expressed serious concerns regarding the quality of a protein powder after allegedly discovering tiny worms inside a newly opened jar. In a video shared on Instagram Stories, she tagged Tukaram Mundhe, the Commissioner of the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), seeking his assistance in addressing the issue.

Basu’s Request for Intervention

In her post, Bipasha stated, “@tukaram_ias You are our only hope. So we don’t get spoilt or adulterated stuff in everything that we purchase.” The video showcased what appeared to be a small worm on her finger, with Bipasha stating, “This Isopure (protein powder brand) is full of small worms. Tiny, tiny worms.

The new dabba (jar) that we opened. (showing a tiny worm on her finger) These are the worms, full of it.” Bipasha’s alarming discovery comes at a time when food safety has become a significant concern in Maharashtra. The state’s food safety commissioner, Mundhe, has been actively conducting inspections and taking action against food businesses to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Food Safety Inspections in Maharashtra

Mundhe has been leading a series of inspections across hotels, restaurants, and various food establishments in Mumbai and beyond. His efforts have resulted in actions against alleged adulteration and violations involving products such as milk and paneer, with several establishments facing licence suspensions.

Recently, the crackdown on food safety has garnered attention from Bollywood celebrities. Paparazzi spotted actor Preity Zinta in Mumbai wearing a black T-shirt emblazoned with the words ‘Team Tukaram Mundhe’. It signalled her support for the official’s efforts to improve food safety standards.

Additionally, Twinkle Khanna commented on the increasing focus on Mundhe’s inspections, questioning whether it is truly rare to see a government official fulfilling their duties that it has become newsworthy. Basu’s recent post has added another voice to the ongoing conversation about food safety within the film industry.

Her concerns highlight the importance of vigilance regarding food quality and safety, especially in light of the recent inspections conducted by the Maharashtra FDA. As public awareness grows, it is hoped that such incidents will lead to improved standards and accountability within the food industry.
