Merlin Group is expanding its partnership with renowned cricketer Yuvraj Singh by launching the second Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence (YSCE) in Kolkata. This initiative follows the prior success of the first YSCE at Merlin Rise – The Sports Republic in Rajarhat and aims to further professional cricket training and player development in West Bengal and the surrounding regions.

Located on Basanti Road in Bantalla, the new facility is positioned approximately 20 minutes from Science City. This centre aims to provide young cricketers in Eastern India with enhanced access to high-quality coaching and development opportunities, contributing to the region’s sporting landscape.

The establishment of the YSCE Club Arena is part of Merlin Group’s ongoing dedication to creating excellent sporting infrastructure and fostering community-driven ecosystems that promote not just homes but also vibrant lifestyle and sporting ventures.

Inaugural Trials Attract Significant Interest

Since its announcement, the academy has witnessed a noteworthy response from aspiring cricketers. The inaugural trials saw over 200 students participating, indicating a robust interest in cricket training. After the selection process, six talented youngsters were awarded scholarships, enabling them to benefit from the YSCE programme.

The centre plans to organise additional trials based on subsequent registrations, ensuring that more aspiring players can participate in future selections. This approach demonstrates YSCE’s commitment to nurturing cricket talent in the region.

Spanning a sizeable area in Bantalla, the YSCE Club Arena is designed to be one of Eastern India’s prime multisport destinations. It includes a large 10,000 sq. ft. indoor sports arena—one of the largest in the area—complemented by a 30,000 sq. ft. outdoor training ground. These facilities will provide year-round access to professional coaching and sporting activities.

Strengthening the Partnership Between Yuvraj Singh and Merlin Group

The launch of the new YSCE marks a significant milestone in the partnership established between the Merlin Group and Yuvraj Singh with the first YSCE operational since 2023. The initial academy has already trained 600 students, reflecting a strong reputation for professional coaching and development within the cricketing community.

Yuvraj Singh, the founder of the YSCE, noted the immense potential for cricket within Bengal, emphasising the importance of providing professional training and a supportive environment for young players. The massive response to the recent trials underlines the enthusiasm for cricket in the region.

Saket Mohta, the Managing Director of the Merlin Group, expressed pride in furthering their collaboration with Yuvraj Singh. He highlighted that the new centre aligns with their vision of building destinations that foster growth and excellence, indicating excitement for the future of young cricketers in the academy.

Merlin Rise and Future Developments in Sports Training

Launched in 2021, Merlin Rise – The Sports Republic represents Eastern India’s first integrated sports-themed township, aimed at creating an environment that combines world-class coaching with superior infrastructure. The township is home to various sporting academies, including the Ronaldinho R10 Football Academy, currently coaching 117 young footballers.

Furthermore, Merlin Group has plans to introduce additional sporting programmes, including the acclaimed learn-to-swim initiative inspired by Olympian Michael Phelps and a mixed martial arts training centre developed by Tiger Shroff. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to create an all-encompassing sports development platform in India.

The opening of the YSCE Club Arena represents a pivotal step in making professional cricket coaching more accessible to young talent across Eastern India. With the enthusiastic reception to the trial rounds, the academy aims to continue nurturing aspiring cricketers and developing their skills in a supportive environment.
