Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has shared that her pregnancy was an unexpected development, despite her and filmmaker Raj Nidimoru being at a stage where they had come to terms with the possibility of not having children.

The couple, who made their relationship public in December of the previous year, announced their first pregnancy in June this year. Samantha, now 39 years old, reflected on the news during filming for her song titled Thassadiya, expressing her enthusiasm about the impending changes that motherhood would bring.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Samantha mentioned that prior to discovering she was pregnant, she and Raj had accepted that they might not become parents. “I had reached a place where I was okay. Like, both Raj and I were okay with, maybe we can’t have kids. Maybe we will. I was okay with either. I was fine, and so was he. So, this is a surprise,” she stated, laughing. This revelation highlights the couple’s candid approach to family planning and their ability to adapt to unexpected circumstances.

Reflecting further on the moment of discovery, Samantha narrated, “On the first day I was shooting for (the song) Thassadiya, I found out. I had just found out, and I had to go and do the steps. I was having a little bit of sickness at that time. I guess everything just aligned. And now, I am truly excited.” With newfound anticipation, she acknowledged the transformative nature of becoming a parent, stating that she feels prepared for this significant shift in her life.

Samantha’s pregnancy news was made public shortly after the release of her film Maa Inti Bangaaram in theatres in June. The announcement took place a day later during promotional activities. Since then, she has actively engaged with her fans through social media, sharing updates about her pregnancy journey, baby-bump photographs, and thoughts on the changes she is experiencing.

Alongside sharing insights about her pregnancy, she has also conducted an Ask Me Anything session on Instagram, where she recounted her shopping experiences for baby items and candidly discussed the physical changes she is undergoing. “Bought all the baby things. Now intimidated by all the baby things. So far, the laptop stand,” she wrote, before inviting questions from other mothers.

Addressing a fan’s comment about weight gain during pregnancy, she mentioned, “I feel ya. 11 kg already,” demonstrating her openness to discussions about the realities of pregnancy. In response to further advice from followers, including suggestions to get ample sleep due to impending lifestyle changes, Samantha acknowledged, “Your life is going to change and there is no turning back.”

This conversation highlights the shared experiences and advice among parents during such a transformative phase of life. The relationship between Samantha and Raj has garnered public interest, particularly since their partnership reportedly began during the filming of Citadel: Honey Bunny, which was released in 2024.

Following her public divorce from Naga Chaitanya in 2021, the timeline regarding Raj’s previous marriage to Shhyamali De remains undetermined. The couple made their commitment official with a yogic ceremony at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore in December 2025, adding a ceremonial aspect to their relationship.
