BRICS Summit in Delhi Leads to Train Cancellations and Diversions

The CSR Journal Magazine

The BRICS Leaders’ Summit, scheduled from September 11 to 13 in Delhi, has resulted in the cancellation of 26 trains and the diversion of over a dozen. This action is part of the security arrangements for the event, which necessitates operational adjustments in the Delhi railway network. Most of the suspended services are EMU trains that connect the capital to its suburban areas.

Long-distance services, including the Rajdhani Express, have also been re-routed. This diversion aims to streamline movement for very important persons and foreign delegations attending the summit. The authorities are keen to maintain high-security standards while ensuring public transport remains functional.

The Northern Railway has put forward an extensive plan to manage the train schedules during this period, which involves a variety of adjustments like regulated train movements, short-terminations, and cancellations. This decision is expected to facilitate smoother transit for attendees during the high-profile gathering.

Details of Cancelled and Diverted Services

Some of the EMU and MEMU trains connecting to key stations such as Ghaziabad, Palwal, Shakurbasti, and New Delhi are among those cancelled. For instance, several services that were scheduled to operate on September 11 and 12 have been withdrawn. Long-distance trains heading to destinations like Dibrugarh and Ranchi have been redirected to follow alternative routes, thus avoiding crucial sections of the main railway lines.

Passengers are advised to take note of train numbers affected by these operational changes. On September 11, train services such as the New Delhi to Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express will divert through alternate tracks. This theme continues on the subsequent days as numerous trains are adjusted, with pick-up and drop-off points at less congested stations, like Sahibabad and Delhi Shahdara.

Additionally, trains scheduled to run through multiple train lines on the Eastern and Northern lines will face delays ranging from 10 to 40 minutes. These operational changes are being communicated to ensure that passengers are well-informed beforehand.

Advice for Passengers During the Summit

With significant alterations taking place across the rail service network in Delhi, passengers planning to travel from September 11 to 13 are encouraged to check the most current status of their trains prior to departure. This includes verifying any cancellations, diversions, or delays that may affect their planned journey.

Additionally, individuals booked on EMU, MEMU, or long-distance services should remain alert to updates from the railway authorities regarding changes to their train schedules. As the situation may evolve, having the latest information is crucial for making timely adjustments.

To avoid missed journeys, travellers are advised to allow extra time for travel related to their train services. Planning ahead will help mitigate the impact of these temporary alterations to the rail network during the summit period.
