The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman employee at a district hospital in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, has been suspended following the circulation of a disturbing video. The footage reportedly shows her kicking a patient approximately ten times within thirty-five seconds while verbally abusing him. This incident has triggered widespread condemnation across various social media platforms.

Officials have labelled the behaviour as inhumane, prompting immediate administrative reactions, as reported by news agency PTI. The incident, which took place within the hospital premises, has garnered attention for its shocking display of mistreatment towards a patient.

Administrative Response and Disciplinary Actions

Following directives from Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, the hospital administration has commenced disciplinary actions against the employee. The chief medical superintendent of the district hospital, Dr Pushpendra Kumar, confirmed that the individual in question is identified as Pinky, a sweeper at the facility.

Officials have indicated that her actions represent a breach of the Employee Conduct Rules established in 1956. Additionally, disciplinary proceedings are being initiated under the Uttar Pradesh Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules of 1999, according to a statement attributed to PTI.

During her suspension, Pinky will be reassigned to the AYUSH outpatient department within the hospital. This action is part of a broader effort to uphold standards of conduct among hospital staff and ensure patient safety.

Inquiry Committee Established for Investigation

A three-member inquiry committee has been formed to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the incident. This committee comprises orthopaedic consultant Dr Dinesh Pratap Saroj, microbiologist Dr Richa, and sister-matron Sushma Yadav. Their task will be to conduct a timely departmental review to ascertain the specifics of the incident.

Officials have made it clear that such misconduct will not be tolerated, as stated by Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Kumar Ghosh. He has urged chief medical officers across the state to enforce strict adherence to service conduct regulations, emphasising that mistreatment of patients is unacceptable under any circumstances.

The establishment of the inquiry committee reflects a commitment to accountability within the healthcare system. By addressing such issues promptly, the authorities aim to restore public confidence and ensure a safe environment for all patients receiving care at government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh.
