The White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor, Stephen Miller, stated that the United States’ naval blockade of Iran has been instrumental in “squeezing the economic life” out of the country. This remark comes amid ongoing tensions and the US’s persistent opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.
Miller elaborated on the US approach in a recent interview with Fox News, indicating that President Donald Trump remains steadfast in pursuing peace, but will not compromise on ensuring that Iran does not develop nuclear capabilities. Miller reiterated Trump’s desire for Iran to choose a positive path, asserting, “he will not allow Iran to pursue or achieve nuclear weapons.”
The advisor highlighted Trump’s decisive leadership style, stating that the President is committed to his objectives and does not make empty promises. He described recent military actions taken by the US against Iran as part of “Operation Epic Fury,” claiming significant military setbacks for Iran following its rejection of previous negotiation opportunities.
Shifts in US Strategy with Ongoing Operations
Miller outlined a significant strategic shift following a two-week ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. According to Miller, the terms proposed by Iran were deemed unsatisfactory, leading to the implementation of a naval blockade on the country’s ports. He asserted that the blockade is a comprehensive measure aimed at restricting vessel movement to and from Iranian ports.
“The Iranian terms were not satisfactory, so President Trump flipped the table on Iran and implemented the naval blockade, resetting the entire global order,” Miller stated. He emphasised that President Trump is directly involved in negotiations, showcasing his active role as Commander-in-Chief during this period of heightened tension.
The US has all the cards, Iran does not,” Miller remarked, reiterating the commitment to preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power. In his view, the ongoing embargo is exerting substantial pressure on the Iranian regime.
Recent Developments in Maritime Operations
“This intervention epitomises the ongoing enforcement of maritime regulations put in place to ensure compliance with the blockade,” CENTCOM noted in their statement. The effectiveness of these operations appears aimed at reinforcing the US stance in the region while managing the potential risks associated with Iran’s maritime activities.
