Ukrainian Drones Strike Oil Terminal in St Petersburg and Military Target at Kronstadt

The CSR Journal Magazine

A Ukrainian drone attack targeted an oil terminal in Russia’s St Petersburg on Saturday, according to Russian officials, marking another strike on the country’s critical energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the operation as part of Kyiv’s “long-range sanctions” strategy aimed at weakening Russia’s military and economic capabilities.

In addition to the oil terminal, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck a military facility on Kronstadt Island, located off the coast of St Petersburg. The attacks are among the latest in a series of long-range operations that Ukraine has carried out deep inside Russian territory.

Pressure on Russia’s Energy Network

Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian oil depots, refineries and military infrastructure as part of its broader campaign to disrupt fuel supplies supporting Moscow’s war effort. The latest strike comes amid reports of growing pressure on Russia’s fuel network, with repeated attacks affecting energy facilities across several regions.

Kyiv maintains that such operations are intended to reduce Russia’s logistical capabilities and impose economic costs, while Moscow has condemned the attacks as acts of terrorism against civilian infrastructure.

Conflicting Claims Over Battlefield Situation

The drone strikes come as fighting continues across eastern Ukraine, where both sides have issued conflicting accounts of territorial control. Russian officials have claimed progress around the strategically important city of Kostyantynivka.

However, Ukrainian authorities have rejected those claims. Major Andriy Kovalev, spokesperson for Ukraine’s General Staff, accused Russia of spreading “outright disinformation” regarding the battlefield situation, insisting that Russian forces have not captured the city.

War Enters Fifth Year

As the Russia-Ukraine conflict enters its fifth year, both nations continue to intensify military operations far beyond the front lines. Ukraine’s long-range drone campaign has brought the war deeper into Russian territory, while Russia continues missile and drone strikes across Ukraine.

The continued escalation has increased pressure on civilian infrastructure, energy supplies and military logistics on both sides. Despite ongoing international diplomatic efforts, there are no immediate signs of a ceasefire, with both Kyiv and Moscow remaining committed to pursuing their military objectives.
