Two Killed And 36 Injured After Two Buses Collide On UP Highway

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic accident occurred on the Mathura-Bareilly National Highway on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 36 others. The collision involved a bus operated by Rajasthan Roadways from the Bharatpur depot and a bus from Uttar Pradesh Roadways coming from the Etah depot. According to Kasganj Superintendent of Police O P Singh, the incident took place in the Soron Kotwali area, near the district magistrate’s office.

Most passengers on board were reportedly en route to Soron Shukar Kshetra, a pilgrimage town known for its religious significance, where they intended to take a holy dip in the Ganga River. Eyewitnesses and initial reports indicate that the buses collided head-on, leading to a sudden and chaotic scene.

Emergency services and local residents quickly joined forces to conduct a rescue operation, assisting injured passengers from the mangled buses. The urgency of the situation saw responders working diligently to ensure that those trapped were freed and given the medical attention they urgently required.

Casualties And Rescue Efforts

Authorities have identified the deceased victims as Girraj, aged 80, and Pritam, aged 65. Girraj hailed from Farso village located in Bharatpur district, while Pritam was a resident of Seva Kurwariya village. Both men reportedly died at the scene of the incident, underscoring the grim outcome of the accident.

Rescue teams transported the injured to the Community Health Centre in Soron, where they received initial treatment. Subsequently, several individuals with more severe injuries were moved to the district hospital for advanced care. Notably, two seriously injured passengers were referred to facilities in Aligarh for specialised treatment, reflecting the severity of some injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities have stated that traffic on the highway was disrupted for a period following the collision, but efforts to restore normal flow were successful. The situation highlights the critical role of efficient emergency response teams in managing road traffic incidents and ensuring quick medical aid for those affected.

Ongoing Investigation Into The Incident

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the bus from the Bharatpur depot may have dozed off prior to the collision, leading to the crash. This potential factor is under scrutiny as officials conduct a detailed investigation into the specific circumstances surrounding the incident. The police are gathering evidence and eyewitness accounts to shed light on the events that transpired.

The bodies of Girraj and Pritam have been sent for post-mortem examinations, which are standard procedures following fatal accidents. This step is crucial for determining the exact cause of death and will contribute to the ongoing investigation.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with road travel, particularly in the busy commuting seasons. Authorities are likely to review safety protocols for long-distance bus services to prevent similar tragedies in the future, focusing on driver alertness and vehicle maintenance as key factors in road safety.
