The Uttar Pradesh government has heightened its preparations for the forthcoming Kanwar Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 30. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) plans to deploy extra buses on key routes, particularly towards Haridwar, to accommodate the influx of devotees.

This initiative aims to facilitate the efficient movement of pilgrims during the busy period of the Shravan month. The additional transport services are part of the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth experience for all participants in the pilgrimage.

24×7 Control Room Established for Coordination

To oversee the pilgrimage effectively, a round-the-clock control room will be set up to manage logistics and communication between various government departments. The control room is expected to play a critical role in monitoring the influx of devotees and address any issues that may arise promptly.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised the need for a seamless and secure yatra, prioritising the safety and convenience of all devotees. In a recent high-level meeting with senior officials, he highlighted the importance of efficient traffic management, health services, and sanitation measures during the event.

Adityanath also mandated the sharing of a yatra management model developed by the Meerut Zone with other police zones across the state to ensure uniform arrangements, reflecting a comprehensive approach to managing this significant religious event.

Safety and Amenities for Pilgrims Prioritised

In recognition of the large number of devotees expected to participate, the Uttar Pradesh government has instructed local administrations to coordinate regularly with Kanwar associations and verify camp operators in advance. Collaboration with authorities from Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttarakhand is encouraged to ensure all prescribed norms are adhered to.

Further measures include repairing roads along key Kanwar routes, enhancing lighting, and ensuring access to drinking water, toilets, and cleanliness. Medical camps will be adequately stocked with essential medicines, including anti-venom and anti-rabies treatments, to safeguard the health of participants.

In addition, the Chief Minister has mandated the establishment of changing rooms for women at major ghats. Regular public announcements with devotional music will complement the pilgrimage experience, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the routes.

Enhanced Security and Safety Measures Implemented

To bolster security during the yatra, Adityanath has ordered increased police patrolling, expanded CCTV surveillance, and drone monitoring at sensitive locations. Officials have also been instructed to monitor social media platforms closely to counter misinformation swiftly.

With water levels rising in certain rivers, safety measures at ghats are being reinforced, including preparations for potential flooding in vulnerable areas. The Chief Minister has expressed the need to ensure that the movement of VIPs does not disrupt the pilgrimage activities.

Local district administrations are encouraged to organise meetings with public representatives in the coming days to review preparation efforts and consider their suggestions, aiming for a safe and well-coordinated pilgrimage experience for all involved.
