Twisha Sharma’s Second Autopsy Report Compilation Will Take Time: AIIMS Official

The CSR Journal Magazine

A team of medical professionals from AIIMS Delhi has finalised the second autopsy of former model and actor Twisha Sharma on Sunday in Bhopal. This undertaking follows a directive from the Madhya Pradesh High Court dated May 22, which mandated an independent examination due to concerns regarding the initial post-mortem conducted earlier. Twisha, aged 33, was discovered hanging at her matrimonial home in Katara Hills, Bhopal, on May 12. Her family has accused her in-laws of dowry-related harassment and involvement in her alleged suicide.

In contrast, Twisha’s in-laws maintain that she struggled with substance addiction. The forensic team constituted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was tasked with a comprehensive evaluation, including additional laboratory tests. Dr Sudhir Gupta, the Chief of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, indicated that the report compilation would be an extended process due to the necessity for thorough analysis.

Investigation and Evidence Collection Underway

The AIIMS team conducted assessments at both Twisha’s residence and the scene of the incident as part of their investigative procedure. Dr Gupta confirmed that they were set to return to Delhi with critical evidence, including samples, photographs, videos, and written findings. The medical team arrived in Bhopal on Saturday evening, with their session commencing on Sunday morning.

Ankur Pandey, who is representing Twisha’s family, noted that the autopsy was completed by 3:40 pm. It was reported that the examination proceeded after Twisha’s brother and his wife had positively identified her. The family had urged the medical team to employ a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on forensic, pathological, and radiological analysis to address the concerns they believed were inadequately handled in the initial autopsy.

In a prior communication, Twisha’s father presented a detailed representation to the medical board, raising significant questions regarding the earlier autopsy. Key issues cited included suspected blunt force injuries on Twisha’s left arm and forearm, insufficient dissection to ascertain the age and severity of these injuries, and the lack of a radiological examination of the neck and cervical structures.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings Against In-Laws

The police have recorded a First Information Report (FIR) against Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, on charges related to dowry harassment. Samarth Singh, a lawyer, was apprehended in Jabalpur after eluding authorities for ten days. Following his arrest, a local court has placed him in a seven-day police custody for further investigation. Meanwhile, Giribala Singh, a former district judge, was earlier granted anticipatory bail by a Bhopal court.

The family has expressed a keen desire for transparency in the investigation process and has reiterated the importance of an accurate assessment of any forensic evidence related to Twisha’s death. Their requests included examining the links between alleged ligatures and the injuries observed on her neck, as well as a toxicological analysis of preserved viscera samples for further clarity on the circumstances encompassing her death.

As the investigation progresses, the outcome of the second autopsy and the subsequent reports are anticipated to play a crucial role in the ongoing legal proceedings and the quest for justice for Twisha Sharma.
