Thirteen MLAs Sworn In As Ministers In DK Shivakumar’s Cabinet

The CSR Journal Magazine

Thirteen MLAs were officially sworn in as ministers in the newly appointed Cabinet of Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on June 4, 2026. This ceremony marks a significant step in the transition process following the end of Siddaramaiah’s tenure. Shivakumar, who is 64 years old and a leader from the Vokkaliga community, took the oath in a simple ceremony at Lok Bhawan. This event follows Siddaramaiah’s resignation on May 28, 2026, adhering to a previously arranged power-sharing agreement within the Congress party.

The Cabinet is designed to reflect a balanced composition, accommodating various regional, caste and factional interests as the Congress prepares for a new political chapter. The cabinet can include a maximum of 34 ministers, and the new members are drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds, including Dalits, Lingayats, Vokkaligas, Kurubas, minorities and tribal communities. Portfolios for these ministers will be assigned shortly.

Key Figures and Representation in the Cabinet

G Parameshwara stands out as a prominent figure, returning as the Deputy Chief Minister. At 74 years old, he is the Congress’s senior-most Dalit leader in Karnataka and has played a key role in reinforcing the party’s grassroots network throughout his political career. His experience as a former president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee further solidifies his stature within the party.

Another notable inclusion is Satish Jarkiholi, a six-time MLA representing Yamakanamaradi and a respected leader within the Valmiki tribal community. Jarkiholi’s influence in the important Belagavi region enhances his credentials as a significant political figure. His history of holding various major portfolios in previous administrations adds depth to the Cabinet.

Priyank Kharge, the son of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, is among the emerging leaders. As the MLA from Chittapur, he has become one of the party’s vocal representatives on a national level, particularly known for his criticisms of the BJP and RSS.

UT Khader, a former Assembly Speaker, brings vital minority representation to the Cabinet. With a strong base in coastal Karnataka, he has previously managed essential departments such as health and urban development, making him a significant addition.

Continuity and Fresh Faces in the New Cabinet

The Cabinet also includes Krishna Byre Gowda, recognised as a leading Vokkaliga and a policy-oriented politician. The MLA from Byatarayanapura has a strong academic background and administrative expertise, which enhances his role in the new Cabinet.

KH Muniyappa, a veteran Dalit leader and seven-time MP from Kolar, has made his return to state politics in 2023 and is recognised as an influential voice for the Scheduled Caste community within the Congress. His presence signifies the party’s commitment to inclusivity.

Ramalinga Reddy, another senior figure from Bengaluru, has extensive administrative experience, having held key positions in prior governments. His capabilities will contribute to the functioning of the new government.

Yathindra Siddaramaiah, the son of the outgoing Chief Minister, was also included in the Cabinet, ensuring representation for his father’s camp. As an MLC and a practising doctor, his role has been well accepted among party loyalists.

Finally, MB Patil and Sharan Prakash Patil, both key leaders from the influential Lingayat community, enhance the Congress’s outreach with their entrances into the Cabinet. Byrathi Suresh, who has strong ties to the previous administration, further underscores the Congress’s strategy of providing continuity amidst these changes.
