The CSR Journal Magazine

The Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS IV), originally scheduled to occur in New Delhi from May 28 to 31, 2026, has been postponed following health concerns related to Ebola in certain regions of Africa. Both the Government of India and the African Union jointly announced the decision, highlighting the need for caution in light of the current public health developments.

In their official statement, the two parties expressed their commitment to closely monitor the evolving health situation. They noted that consultations regarding the summit had taken place between officials from India and the Chairperson of the African Union, reinforcing the importance of ensuring that all relevant stakeholders and leaders from Africa could participate fully in the discussions.

The decision to postpone was made after careful consideration, aiming to facilitate an environment that fosters comprehensive engagement during the summit. The new dates for the event will be determined through further consultations, with both sides committed to rescheduling at a future time when health conditions permit.

Cooperative Efforts in Public Health

As part of their announcement, India and the African Union reiterated their dedication to enhancing public health capabilities across the continent. This includes ongoing support for the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and various national health institutions.

India proclaimed its solidarity with African nations, highlighting its willingness to assist in addressing the health challenges posed by the Ebola situation. The collaboration aims to strengthen Africa’s response to health crises, reflecting the shared responsibility between India and African nations in building resilience against such threats.

These cooperative efforts are part of a broader framework that India and Africa have established, aimed at fortifying public health measures and preparedness initiatives throughout the region. The two parties emphasised the need for sustained partnership and mutual respect in addressing these significant challenges.

Future Engagement and Relations

The postponement of the summit does not undermine the longstanding relationship between India and Africa. Both sides are committed to maintaining their partnership, grounded in principles of solidarity, South-South cooperation, and mutual respect.

Looking ahead, India and the African Union aim to collaborate on various fronts, including peace, development, and prosperity for the people of both regions. The postponement provides an opportunity to reassess their agenda and ensure that the eventual meeting fully reflects the needs and interests of all participants.

New dates for the summit will be communicated in due course as consultations continue. The commitment to holding this summit demonstrates the enduring bonds between India and Africa, showcasing their shared vision for mutual growth and support in the face of evolving challenges.
