The demonstrators are appealing for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, following a recent incident of police action on protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Protesters gathered in the state capital, Bhopal, to show solidarity with similar movements nationwide and to hold the government accountable for the ongoing issue of paper leaks.

In Bhopal, crowds assembled at the Board office square, voicing their discontent with the current government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The protesters raised slogans demanding Pradhan’s resignation, highlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability in examination conduct. Various placards with creative messages were also raised to convey their sentiments, emphasising the seriousness of the situation.

One protester expressed, “We have gathered here and demand the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. The recent NEET paper leak is not an isolated case; there have been numerous irregularities in exam papers over the last two years, involving SSC and CBSE as well.” This statement reflects the overarching concern among students regarding the integrity of examinations.

Protests Spread Across Different Districts

Large groups of students were also seen protesting in Indore, particularly in the Bhanwar kuan area, where they echoed the demand for Pradhan’s resignation in light of the NEET exam paper leak. The protestors utilised inventive means to draw attention, including one individual dressed as a superhero, claiming that the character represents the ongoing fight for justice.

This particular protestor stated, “The reason for the protest is that NEET students have tragically died by suicide, and we hold the Education Minister accountable. Until he resigns, our protests will continue.” Demonstrations have reportedly intensified, with students saying they will persist in their actions until their demands are met. These expressions of dissent highlight the profound impact the examination issues have had on students and their families.

In addition to the protests in Indore, demonstrators in Jabalpur also showcased their disapproval with colourful placards demanding government accountability. The presence of various inventive slogans illustrated the urgency and importance students are attributing to this matter, reinforcing the need for significant changes in how examination processes are managed.

Concerns Over Police Action During Protests

Reports indicate that some of the protesting students faced police backlash during these demonstrations. Accounts have emerged of lathi charges and the use of water cannons against students, raising concerns about the policing of peaceful protests. Some students claimed that police opened fire on demonstrators amid these tensions, further aggravating the situation.

A protestor described the determination of students, asserting, “If Jantar Mantar is shut down, we will protest here. We will spread our message across the country until the Education Minister resigns.” The resolve among the protestors appears to be steadfast as they continue to gather in large numbers to advocate for change.

The rising disquiet among students underscores the pressing need for reforms within the educational assessment framework.
