SSC GD Exam Cancelled Amid Seat Mismatch Chaos, Protests, Vandalism in UP, Bihar

The CSR Journal Magazine

The SSC GD examination held on May 25 descended into disorder at numerous centres in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, prompting protests, vandalism, and cancelations that left many candidates in confusion. Reports indicate that students from cities such as Kanpur, Muzaffarpur, and Gorakhpur demonstrated outside exam centres where they were denied entry or informed of last-minute cancellations.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) subsequently announced that the exam would be rescheduled for a date following May 27, sparking further unrest among the candidates. Many were seen expressing frustration as they had travelled from various districts, expecting to participate in one of the most significant recruitment examinations in India.

At the BB College examination centre in Muzaffarpur, candidates experienced chaos as the latter shifts were abruptly called off. Students alleged they were informed of the cancellation only upon reaching the venue. Concerns about a lack of official communication from SSC further elevated the agitation within the campus.

Severe Disruptions Reported in Kanpur

In Kanpur, a substantial issue arose due to overbooking, with more than 800 candidates arriving at a centre designed to accommodate only 399 students per shift. This mismanagement led to overcrowding, inciting anger among the candidates who gathered outside to protest the situation.

As confusion mounted, local police and administrative officials took action to control the crowd. Ultimately, the examination scheduled for that day was cancelled, leaving numerous candidates disappointed and frustrated.

Such incidents highlight ongoing issues regarding organisation and communication in the conduct of examinations. Many students had travelled extensive distances and incurred expenses only to face unexpected cancellations.

Vandalism and Road Blockades in Prayagraj

Similar incidents occurred at the I-Tech Zone examination centre in Prayagraj, where more than twice the number of candidates was allegedly allotted to the facility for the latter shifts. Reports indicated that while the centre possessed around 650 computers, over 1,000 candidates were assigned for each of the affected shifts.

As the candidates realised that sufficient resources were unavailable, protests escalated to vandalism, resulting in damage to computers, monitors, and other essential equipment on the premises. Traffic disruptions followed when angry candidates blocked the GT Road, prompting police intervention to restore order.

In response to the upheaval, authorities placed a notice at the examination centre stating that postponed exams would be rescheduled in due course. This situation added to the distress experienced by candidates already facing uncertainties regarding their future opportunities.

SSC Announces Rescheduling Measures

Following the chaotic events, the SSC issued an official communication declaring that the cancelled Constable (GD) Exam 2026 would be rescheduled starting from May 27. The commission also confirmed that new admit cards for the affected candidates would be made available on its official website.

This announcement aimed to provide clarity to the thousands of candidates preparing for jobs in various forces like the BSF, CISF, and CRPF. However, the day turned into a source of considerable distress rather than a straightforward examination experience.

The disarray highlighted the essential need for improved organisation in conducting examinations, ensuring that candidates could trust the process without encountering such widespread disruption in the future.
