Many vendors spent hours outside the police cordon waiting to reclaim their property. Another vendor, Roberto Ramirez, noted that he initially thought the noises sounded like firecrackers before realising the situation was far more serious.

Attendee Estan Wakonabo described the moment he became aware of the shooter. He and his girlfriend were waiting for a photo booth when people surged past them in a panic. “Once I heard a pop, pop, pop, that’s when I knew it was a shooter,” he recounted, adding that he saw multiple victims lying on the ground after escorting his girlfriend to safety.

The Bite of Seattle festival, which has taken place since 1982 and attracts up to 350,000 visitors over its three-day span, was abruptly halted following the shooting. Investigators are diligently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, while community members begin to process the traumatic event.

In a message of support, Washington Governor Bob Ferguson expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and commended the responders for ensuring the safety of others during the crisis.
