Shashikant Suthar Played Key Role in NEET Leak Scandal Revelation

The CSR Journal Magazine

The NEET-UG 2026 paper leak scandal emerged into a significant national controversy due to the actions of Shashikant Suthar, a chemistry teacher from Sikar district in Rajasthan. Initially, the situation might not have escalated if Suthar had chosen to overlook a dubious PDF document he encountered shortly after the NEET examination held on May 3. However, he opted to investigate the matter further, leading to his role as a whistleblower in the unfolding NEET controversy.

Following the examination, Suthar reportedly came across a “guess paper” circulating in various Telegram groups. His inquiry into the document soon unveiled alarming similarities between it and the actual NEET paper. This discovery set off a chain of events that ultimately resulted in the cancellation of the exam.

Details of the Discovery

Suthar revealed that after the examination concluded, an acquaintance approached him with the viral PDF, inquiring whether the questions it contained matched those of the actual paper. Upon comparing the two, Suthar stated he was astonished to find nearly 140 questions that were identical, down to the wording, sequence, and punctuation. To support his findings, he resorted to using AI tools for a more detailed analysis.

Recognising the gravity of the situation, Suthar took decisive steps to report the matter to authorities. He communicated with the National Testing Agency (NTA) and subsequently provided information to investigative bodies, including the Special Operations Group. Suthar claimed that within hours of reporting, officials contacted him for more details, emphasising his commitment to addressing the apparent malpractice.

Moreover, Suthar recounted that he attempted to alert local police on the very night of May 3. Despite his efforts at the Udhyog Nagar police station, he alleged that there was a delay in escalating the issue to the NTA. Reports suggested that discussions about the “guess paper” continued until May 7, before formal communication was made to the relevant agency. While Suthar asserted that various education officials and hostel operators were aware of the situation, this was denied by senior police officials in Sikar.

Developments and Consequences

The investigation, which began with local law enforcement, rapidly expanded to involve the Rajasthan Police, Special Operations Group, and later the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). As awareness of the alleged paper leak grew, multiple arrests have been made in connection with the suspected network responsible for the incident.

As the fallout from the scandal intensified, Suthar expressed his dismay at the involvement of educators in such unethical practices. He articulated a prevalent concern among educators regarding the negative impact on students’ efforts, indicating that the sacrifices students make in their educational pursuits might ultimately amount to nothing if such corruption continues unchecked.

In light of these events, the NEET-UG 2026 examination has been cancelled, with a re-examination scheduled for June 21, 2026. The authorities have implemented stricter security measures for the upcoming test. Furthermore, this controversy has prompted the government to announce a transition of the NEET examination to a computer-based format starting next year, as part of efforts to mitigate similar issues in the future.
