Severe Heatwave in Vidarbha With Nagpur Temperatures Exceeding 45 Degrees Celsius

The CSR Journal Magazine

Severe heatwave conditions continue to affect Nagpur and various regions of Vidarbha, with temperatures reported above 45°C on May 21. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided data indicating that Brahmapuri recorded the highest temperature at 47.1°C, while Chandrapur followed closely with 46.8°C. Additional reports highlighted that both Wardha and Gadchiroli experienced temperatures of 46.4°C, and Nagpur itself reached 46°C.

With these extreme temperatures affecting daily life, weather officials have recommended that residents refrain from direct exposure to sunlight, especially during the afternoon hours. Staying hydrated is crucial as these heatwave conditions persist across the region, and the health risks associated with high temperatures are significant.

Weather Alerts Issued for Upcoming Days

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Nagpur has issued a red alert for multiple districts in eastern Vidarbha. Forecasts suggest that temperatures will remain around a scorching range of 46 to 47 degrees Celsius for the next five to seven days. This continued heatwave is expected to have a substantial impact on local communities, with increased caution advised for vulnerable populations.

Pravin Kumar, a meteorologist at the RMC, stated that eastern Vidarbha areas are anticipating temperatures consistently around 46-47 degrees Celsius. He further elaborated that certain districts may continue to be under red alert due to the predicted extreme temperatures. Over the next three to five days, severe heatwave conditions are likely to affect several districts within Vidarbha.

Kumar highlighted specific locations such as Brahmapuri and Gadchiroli, where temperatures may also approach 47 degrees Celsius, with night temperatures expected to be above normal. Residents in Akola, Amravati, and Wardha, among others, are similarly warned, as daytime and nighttime temperatures are projected to remain elevated.

Public Safety Measures Advised

Kumar previously noted that Wardha recorded a temperature of 47.1°C earlier in the week, and Nagpur too crossed the 46°C mark, setting a high record for the season. Authorities have advised that the situation is unlikely to improve in the near future, with expectations for consistently high temperatures across most regions.

Residents are being urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard their health, particularly during peak heat hours. As weather patterns and forecasts continue to evolve, local authorities remain vigilant and responsive to the ongoing situation affecting the Vidarbha region.
