Rajasthan has taken a notable step in its clean energy transition by signing a Framework for Action on Advanced Clean Energy and Sustainable Development with the International Solar Alliance (ISA). This landmark agreement, executed in Jaipur, positions Rajasthan as the first state in India to formalise such a partnership. Energy Secretary Aarti Dogra and ISA Director General Ashish Khanna were responsible for signing the document, with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma present.

Objectives of the Partnership

The newly established collaboration aims to develop a detailed roadmap for the expansion of solar power generation within the state. Key initiatives will include enhancing transmission and distribution networks, modernising the electricity grid, and promoting energy storage solutions. Further, the partnership intends to improve energy efficiency and advance necessary policy reforms essential for Rajasthan’s sustainable energy future.

In line with the collaborative efforts, Rajasthan is set to devise a 2030–35 Energy Transition Plan, which is intended to direct the state towards a robust and sustainable energy system. The agreement encompasses the integration of AI-enabled digital technologies, notably featuring a Digital Twin pilot project in Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam, which aims to enhance demand forecasting, network planning, and the integration of renewable energy solutions.

This initiative not only supports Rajasthan’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy but also targets the achievement of 125 GW of clean energy capacity. The state has already seen significant advancements under the PM-KUSUM Scheme, successfully deploying over 4 GW of solar power to provide daytime electricity for farmers in 26 districts.

Government Initiatives to Enhance Implementation

During a recent review of the state’s renewable energy initiatives, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma urged officials to expedite the execution of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. He further instructed the Chief Secretary to ensure consistent monitoring of progress regarding this initiative. In addition, discussions were held concerning crucial projects under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and the Green Energy Corridor Programme.

The meeting included the attendance of senior officials such as Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, along with Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar. Officials from power distribution companies in Jodhpur and Ajmer engaged in the discussions virtually, highlighting the collaborative effort to further support Rajasthan’s renewable energy goals.

The anticipated outcomes of this agreement are expected to solidify Rajasthan’s status as a leader in renewable energy within India. By serving as a model for other states, Rajasthan’s initiative may inspire similar international collaborations aimed at transitioning to clean energy sources.
