Punjab Man Allegedly Sells His Ex-Wife’s Infant for Rs 5 Lakh

The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman from Punjab has lodged a complaint against her former husband, alleging that he sold their 16-day-old son for Rs 5 lakh. This troubling allegation alleges that her ex-husband took advantage of her trust after supporting her during childbirth. After claiming to take the newborn for vaccination, she was led to believe that her child had died and been buried. Shortly thereafter, she received a call from an unidentified woman claiming that the infant was alive.

Troubling Events Unfolding

The woman, identified as Shivani, explained that the incident began long before her son went missing. She underwent a lengthy marriage with her former husband, Shiva, during which they had two children. However, after experiencing domestic disputes, the couple divorced approximately four years ago. Both parties remarried soon after the separation.

Shivani later wed Malvinder, her former schoolmate. During her pregnancy, a dispute with her current husband forced her to live separately. It was during this time, she claims, that her ex-husband reappeared in her life, ostensibly to provide support. On May 21, she alleges it was Shiva who took her to Civil Hospital in Jalandhar, where she gave birth to a baby boy. The circumstances following this event have become a key focus of her complaint.

Shivani expressed that Shiva did not come to the hospital alone; he was accompanied by his present wife and another woman. Over the next few days, he reportedly took an active role in helping Shivani with the newborn, eventually leading her to trust them completely.

Claim of Disappearance and Unforeseen Communication

On May 25, four days after the child’s birth, Shiva allegedly informed Shivani that the baby needed vaccinations. A young woman reportedly visited her home, claiming she would take the infant for the treatment. During this time, Shivani’s older son was playing outside, and she briefly stepped away to the bathroom. Upon her return, the woman and the baby were nowhere to be found.

Following the disappearance, Shivani claims to have searched for her child and tried to communicate with her ex-husband. Just days later, she allegedly received a phone call from an unknown woman asserting that the child was safe and with her. According to Shivani, this caller identified herself as being from Amritsar and claimed to have paid money for the baby.

In a disturbing turn, the woman purportedly requested refunding the money in exchange for the child. Shivani, feeling compelled to record the conversation, was abruptly disconnected when she began doing so. Since that day, the caller’s phone has reportedly remained switched off.

Investigation Launch by Police

The complexities of the narrative intensified when Shivani contacted Shiva again and, on one occasion, spoke to his current wife. Shivani alleged that she was told her child had died and had been buried, which only deepened her confusion. In her attempts to ascertain the truth, she discovered that many locals also believed the baby had not died, but was sold instead.

Additively, Shivani noticed suspicious activity on social media, where Shiva allegedly posted images of bundles of cash, which were promptly deleted. She believes this money was linked to the child’s sale and was possibly used for purchasing items like an LED television and other household goods.

Shivani claims her ex-husband threatened her over her inquiries into the child’s disappearance, warning her against seeking help from law enforcement. The matter has now escalated to police involvement, with the Commissioner instructing an investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the alleged sale and the identity of the woman who contacted Shivani.
