Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to transform the concept of ‘Vocal for Local’ into a widespread movement, advocating for greater adoption of local products and support for local entrepreneurs. This appeal was made during the inauguration of the Sardardham Hostel in Vadodara, Gujarat, where he praised the entrepreneurial spirit prevalent in the state.

PM Modi emphasised that Gujarat’s ability to transform challenges into opportunities has been essential in shaping the state’s identity across various sectors. He mentioned the ongoing global turmoil stemming from the war in West Asia and its impact on the economy, asserting the importance of minimising reliance on imported goods.

Addressing Global Crises and Their Impact on India

The Prime Minister highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic represented a significant crisis, with the current geopolitical situation contributing to economic disruptions. He noted that, akin to the collective response to the pandemic, the nation needs to unite once more to confront the challenges posed by international events.

He stated that the escalating prices of imported goods are a consequence of disrupted global supply chains due to the crisis in West Asia. To alleviate the pressure on domestic resources, he called on citizens to be mindful of their consumption patterns, particularly regarding foreign imports.

To reinforce this message, PM Modi proposed practical measures such as reducing the use of petrol and diesel and promoting virtual meetings for both government and private sectors. He underscored the necessity of minimizing personal expenses incurred through foreign exchange.

Focus on Local Products and Reducing Gold Importation

In his address, the Prime Minister also identified gold imports as a substantial drain on the country’s finances and advised people to delay any gold purchases until the economic situation improves. He reiterated that prioritising local products over foreign alternatives will contribute positively to the economy.

By urging citizens to empower local entrepreneurs, PM Modi is promoting the idea that every small contribution can collectively make a significant difference. He highlighted the necessity of reducing dependence on imported goods to foster economic resilience and stability.

Furthermore, PM Modi reinforced Gujarat’s progression in manufacturing, particularly in sectors such as semiconductors and pharmaceuticals. He underscored that cities like Vadodara are becoming essential hubs for various industries, aiding India’s aspirations within global supply chains.

Gujarat’s Role in Emerging Industries

During his speech, PM Modi mentioned the advancements in Gujarat’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, with production already underway at Kaynes Semiconductor Plant. He articulated the state’s commitment to developing its role in the global semiconductor supply chain, positioning it as a vital node within this network.

He pointed out the remarkable strides made in Vadodara, which has transitioned into a prominent manufacturing centre known for heavy machinery, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and power equipment. The city is also developing expertise in aerospace, which is anticipated to elevate it to a recognised aviation hub internationally.

PM Modi’s address aimed to inspire action among citizens, encouraging them to support local initiatives while ensuring economic stability in light of existing global uncertainties. By advocating for a shift towards local products, he articulated a vision for a self-reliant and resilient India.
