A tragic plane crash in the Bahamas has resulted in the deaths of ten individuals, including several musicians, according to a statement from the Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union. The incident occurred shortly after takeoff from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, as the aircraft was en route to San Andros. The crash took place in North Andros, west of Nassau, on July 10, 2026.

Temporary Suspension of Flamingo Air Operations

In response to the crash, the Bahamian government has temporarily grounded all flights operated by Flamingo Air. This decision was announced as a precautionary measure while investigations into the cause of the accident are conducted. The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation noted that this suspension was taken in light of two safety incidents involving Flamingo Air the prior day.

According to reports, the initial incident involved a Flamingo Air aircraft that was headed to Mayaguana. During the flight, the pilot detected a concern, prompting a return to Nassau. Upon landing, the aircraft reportedly caught fire after all passengers had disembarked. This incident is currently under investigation alongside the crash.

Flamingo Air’s air operator certificate has been temporarily halted as officials seek to ensure the safety of future operations. Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis has stated that both incidents will be thoroughly examined to prevent further occurrences.

Impact on the Entertainment Community

The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting that some of the victims were vibrant and talented members of the local entertainment community. The Union released a statement on X, stating, “Among the dearly departed are some of the talented and vibrant members of our entertainment community, including members of The Pond Band and a DJ.” The Union further reiterated that the passion and artistry of the victims significantly enriched Bahamian culture.

The incident has sparked a wave of grief and condolences from across the nation, with many in the community remembering the contributions of the deceased. Their legacy within the entertainment sector is acknowledged as having a profound impact on the cultural landscape of The Bahamas.

The government has pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the tragedy, with the aim of clarifying the circumstances surrounding both the crash and the earlier incident with the Flamingo Air flight. Authorities have also assured the public that safety remains the top priority for all air travel in the Bahamas.
