The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the women’s hockey team on Saturday following their impressive bronze medal win at the U18 Asia Cup 2026 with a decisive 3-0 victory over Korea. Taking to social media, Modi celebrated their determination throughout the tournament. “Congratulations to the Indian Women’s U18 Hockey Team on securing the Bronze Medal at the U18 Asia Cup 2026. This achievement reflects the growing strength of women’s hockey in India,” he remarked.

Team’s Strong Performance in the Bronze Match

The Indian team showcased exceptional skills against Korea, with Sandeepa Kumari scoring the opening goal just two minutes into the match. This early lead set the tone and kept Korea on the defensive. India maintained control for much of the game, doubling their lead through their captain, Sweety Kujur, in the 16th minute. This commanding start allowed the team to dominate the match.

Continuing their dominance after the break, India scored a third goal in the 33rd minute courtesy of striker Nousheen Naz, who finished as the tournament’s highest goalscorer with 12 goals. The Indian defence was equally robust, effectively shutting out Korea and securing a clean sheet, which ensured their success in the bronze-medal contest.

Sandeepa Kumari’s influential performance earned her the Player of the Match title, cementing her role as a standout player. This victory marked a significant conclusion to the tournament for India, especially after their narrow semi-final defeat to China, highlighting the resilience of the women’s team.

Continued Growth in Women’s Hockey

Modi’s congratulatory message underlined the progress being made in women’s hockey in India, as many players from the U18 cohort are likely to play key roles in future national teams. The bronze medal contributes to a growing legacy of Indian women’s sports, reflecting preparedness for upcoming competitions.

In addition to the commendation from the Prime Minister, Hockey India has announced financial incentives to celebrate this achievement. Each player from the women’s team will receive INR 1 lakh while support staff members will be awarded INR 50,000. Such recognitions not only honour their efforts but also promote further participation in the sport.

Ultimately, this U18 Asia Cup bronze represents a significant step for Indian women’s hockey, showcasing the increasing depth and skill among young players. This victory will serve as motivation for both current and future generations of athletes.

Indian Men’s Team Secures Gold Medal

In a remarkable turn of events, the Indian U-18 Men’s Hockey Team clinched the title at the Men’s U-18 Asia Cup 2026 by defeating hosts Japan 4-1. The final, held in Kakamigahara, Japan, witnessed a stellar hat-trick performance by Ashish Tani Purti, who found the net at the second, 28th, and 34th minutes, helping India dominate throughout the match.

Captain Ketan Kushwaha also contributed by scoring a goal in the 30th minute, solidifying India’s strong lead against Japan. Although Japan managed a goal through Numada Gaku in the closing stages, it was little more than a consolation as India’s defence remained resolute.

After such commendable performances from both teams, Hockey India has announced cash awards, further amplifying the achievements of these young athletes. The positive outcomes from both the men’s and women’s teams signify an era of promising potential in Indian hockey.
