PM Modi Invites Europe To Partner In India’s Startup Boom, Calls For Stronger Strategic Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a collaborative partnership between India and Europe, emphasising India’s impressive rise as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem. Speaking at the European CEO Round Table organised by Volvo in Gothenburg on Sunday, he pointed out the innovations emerging from Indian startups in sectors like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Fintech, Space, and Mobility. He asserted that these advancements can contribute significantly to global solutions.

During his address, Modi noted the ongoing global uncertainties and stressed that both regions could work together to become strong pillars of stability, sustainability, and shared prosperity. He invited European businesses to partake in India’s developmental journey, highlighting the potential for mutual benefits through collaboration.

As Modi conveyed his message, he highlighted the evolution of technological competition and the pressures on supply chains while reiterating the urgency of cooperation between India and Europe to navigate these challenges effectively.

Strengthening Ties Between India and Europe

The Prime Minister remarked that India and Europe have reached a notable “turning point” in their relations. At the governmental level, both sides have established a strategic and ambitious agenda that reflects their commitment to enhanced cooperation. Modi mentioned the importance of expeditiously implementing the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, which is seen as a crucial framework for future collaboration.

He also pointed to advancements in the Security and Defence Partnership, alongside the Mobility Agreement, as significant steps that provide new direction to their relations. Modi expressed confidence that these agreements could facilitate a more robust partnership, addressing mutual concerns effectively.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister’s emphasis on a strong governmental consensus highlights the shared vision of prosperity and stability through collaboration. His approach underscores the importance of rebuilding trust between the two entities in light of current geopolitical dynamics.

Modi’s Visit and Recognition in Sweden

During this visit, Prime Minister Modi was awarded Sweden’s prestigious “Royal Order of Polar Star Commander Grand Cross,” an honour bestowed upon foreign heads of government, marking his 31st international accolade. This recognition reflects the growing ties between India and Sweden, as well as the respect Modi commands on the global stage.

The European CEO Round Table included participation from senior leaders like Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, indicating the high-level engagement focused on strengthening partnerships. This gathering provided a platform for dialogue on emerging opportunities and mutual interests.

Modi is currently on a five-nation tour, with Sweden being the third stop before heading to Norway. His travels underline India’s proactive outreach to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance economic collaborations with European nations, reflecting an enduring commitment to fostering international partnerships.
