“People of Iran are United, Government System is Not Dependent on a Single Person”: Deputy Representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a recent discussion in New Delhi, Dr Mohammad Hossein Ziyaeenia, the Deputy Representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in India, asserted that the Iranian populace remains united amid claims of internal discord. He indicated that such claims primarily originate from individuals unfamiliar with Iran’s government structure or those attempting to obscure the reality of the situation.

Ziyaeenia emphasised that the Iranian governance model is not centred around a single individual, noting that Iran functions as a republic. He explained that the notion of a solitary leader whose absence would precipitate the nation’s downfall is erroneous. Instead, he highlighted the existence of a structured hierarchy within the government.

Responding to questions about reports of civil unrest, he attributed any past discord to unjust sanctions imposed by external forces. According to Ziyaeenia, recent events have fostered a renewed understanding among the Iranian people that these economic struggles stemmed primarily from outside influences, resulting in a more cohesive national sentiment.

Iran’s Position on Regional Conflicts

The continued hostilities between Iran and allies such as Israel and the United States, which began on February 28, have posed significant challenges for the region. As of April 7, both nations have been engaging in a tenuous ceasefire, following the escalation of conflict which has disrupted global energy supplies.

When questioned about Iran’s retaliatory actions against certain Gulf nations in response to attacks from the US and Israel, Ziyaeenia maintained that the Iranian leadership has a duty to protect its citizens. He pointed out the presence of US military bases in neighbouring countries, questioning whether Iran should remain passive in the face of perceived threats.

He articulated a perspective suggesting that if Iran is under threat from forces stationed adjacent to its borders, it is justified in responding accordingly. Ziyaeenia highlighted that a warplane cannot operate from US soil or even from territories like Palestine towards Iran, underscoring the geographical realities of regional conflicts.

Iran’s Resolve and Public Sentiment

Ziyaeenia expressed unwavering confidence in Iran’s capacity to prevail in any ongoing warfare. He affirmed that the Iranian nation is resolute in its commitment to defending its interests and security. Citing the sentiments of its citizens, he mentioned that public support for the government and military remains robust.

He described the nightly demonstrations in Iranian streets, where citizens reportedly chant their support for national leaders and the armed forces. This display of public morale, according to Ziyaeenia, indicates a collective belief that Iran will not succumb to external pressures.

Furthermore, he suggested that adversaries misjudge the determination of the Iranian people and urged them to consider terms conducive to peace in order to terminate conflict. Ziyaeenia’s comments reflect a broader narrative of resistance and resilience within Iran, reinforcing the view that the nation stands united against foreign interventions.
