Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan publicly expressed his displeasure over the repeated practice of asking audiences to stand and applaud political leaders during public functions, saying people should not be inconvenienced for ceremonial gestures.

The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister was attending a programme in Raisen district on Sunday when the announcer invited him to the stage and urged those present to rise and applaud in welcome. The repeated requests visibly irked Chouhan, who took the microphone to voice his objection.

“It is very wrong to make them stand so many times. I oppose this. The people are not fools… They are our God. You are making them stand at everything,” Chouhan said.

Addressing the gathering, he added, “I am your servant, I’ll stand for you all,” drawing loud applause from the audience.

The remarks came during his visit to Raisen district, which falls under the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency represented by Chouhan.

‘Mama Coaching Class’ Initiative Announced

During the event, Chouhan announced the launch of the ‘Mama Coaching Class’ initiative in Raisen, aimed at providing free coaching to students preparing for competitive examinations.

Popularly known as “Mama” during his tenure as Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Chouhan said the initiative seeks to support young aspirants by offering quality academic guidance and career counselling.

“After Vidisha, ‘Mama Coaching Class’ will soon be launched in Raisen to provide quality preparation for competitive exams for the youth, ensuring their bright future,” he said.

According to the Union minister, the programme will go beyond classroom coaching and will include career counselling, guidance on self-employment opportunities, assistance in accessing banking services and support for securing employment.

Chouhan said the objective of the initiative is to equip young people with the resources and mentorship necessary to build successful careers and become self-reliant.

The comments on public etiquette and the announcement of the new coaching initiative were met with an enthusiastic response from those attending the programme.
