Noida Authority Reduces Fuel Consumption of Official Vehicles by 20%

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Noida Authority has opted to lower the daily fuel consumption of all its light and heavy vehicles by 20 per cent. This decision was made in light of the ongoing energy crisis and follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for austerity measures aimed at protecting national interests. The announcement was made on May 15, by the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority.

An official statement highlighted that the move aligns with the appeals made by Prime Minister Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for fuel conservation. The Chief Executive Officer emphasised that the authority’s decision reflects a commitment to national welfare amidst rising energy costs.

This initiative is part of a broader call from the Government of India for the conservation of fuel resources as the nation grapples with elevated crude oil prices and challenges stemming from international conflicts in West Asia.

Prime Minister’s Acknowledgment of Energy Crisis

Prime Minister Modi has recently made a series of seven appeals aimed at encouraging citizens to contribute to economic resilience. During an address in Secunderabad, he urged the public to reduce reliance on imported fuels while embracing environmentally sustainable alternatives. He characterised responsible behaviour in daily life as a form of patriotism in modern times.

In his address, the Prime Minister called for the public to reduce their petrol and diesel consumption through public transportation, car-pooling, and the adoption of electric vehicles. He also stressed the importance of lowering household usage of edible oils and encouraged farmers to transition to natural farming practices, aiming to decrease the dependency on imported chemical fertilisers.

This call for action seeks to inspire widespread changes in consumer behaviour and production methods throughout the country, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable practices amidst global energy challenges.

New Transportation Initiatives and Fuel Price Adjustments

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also recently introduced a hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service. This eco-friendly initiative, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, aims to offer sustainable last-mile connectivity in the Central Vista area of Delhi.

According to DMRC officials, the introduction of hydrogen-fuelled buses is intended to enhance environmentally friendly transportation options between metro stations and government offices, aligning with the broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable mobility.

On the same day, the Centre announced an increase in fuel prices, raising petrol and diesel rates by Rs 3 per litre nationwide. In New Delhi, the price of petrol has surged from Rs 94.77 to Rs 97.77 per litre, while diesel prices have risen from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67 per litre. This adjustment in fuel prices coincides with the push for conservation and austerity by the government and highlights the ongoing challenges the country faces in managing energy resources.
