Noida and Greater Noida Adjust School Hours for Classes 1 to 8 Due to Heat

The CSR Journal Magazine

The school timings for students in Classes 1 to 8 in Noida and Greater Noida have been officially altered in response to the extreme heat conditions affecting the region. The announcement was made by the District Basic Education Officer. Starting from June 29, 2026, all schools will operate from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM until further notice.

This new timing policy affects all educational institutions in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district, including government, government-aided, recognised schools, as well as those affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, and other boards, including Madrasas. The change aims to mitigate the impact of rising temperatures on young students.

Authorities have emphasised the importance of adhering to these revised timings in order to safeguard children’s health and well-being. The District Basic Education Officer has instructed that schools must strictly implement the new schedule and remain compliant until any alterations are communicated.

Current Weather Conditions Impacting Education

The adjustment of school hours comes amid persistently high temperatures across various regions of North India, which are associated with a delay in the arrival of the southwest monsoon. Recent reports indicate that states such as Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan are experiencing unusually hot and humid weather.

Daytime temperatures in several areas have consistently surpassed average seasonal levels, creating a challenging environment for students commuting to and from school. To address these conditions, district authorities have implemented precautionary measures to protect children and other vulnerable populations from heat-related health issues.

Officials have issued advisories urging the public to limit time spent outdoors during peak afternoon hours, stay adequately hydrated, and adhere to guidelines aimed at minimising the risks associated with extreme heat until weather patterns improve.

Future Weather Expectations

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided some hope for relief from the current heatwave. Forecasts suggest that the monsoon may soon progress further into North India, as conditions are expected to become more conducive for its advancement.

Once the monsoon arrives, it is anticipated that the prevailing high temperatures will decrease significantly, providing reprieve to residents and particularly benefiting school-going children who have been affected by the heat. Authorities remain vigilant, monitoring weather developments closely and ready to adjust measures as necessary.

In light of these ongoing weather challenges, education officials continue to prioritise the health and safety of students. The revision of school timings is one of several strategies being implemented to mitigate the adverse effects of extreme weather on young learners during these critical school months.
