A notable instance from Manipal Hospital in Sarjapur illustrates the consequences of neglecting early symptoms. A 32-year-old IT professional encountered persistent neck pain for several months, which escalated to a level that disrupted her daily activities and work performance. The case underscores the importance of addressing discomfort before it progresses into serious complications.

Initially, the patient experienced mild discomfort attributed to extended hours in front of a computer screen. Like many in similar roles, she chose to persevere through the unease. As time passed, however, the pain intensified and began to radiate down her left arm, culminating in weakness and numbness in her hand. These indicators suggested that her condition was no longer merely muscular but had begun to involve nerve pathways, necessitating immediate medical attention.

The outcomes were largely positive; the patient was discharged the following day with minimal postoperative medication requirements. Within a week, she experienced complete relief from her symptoms and reported considerable improvement in strength. Furthermore, she was able to return to her professional responsibilities within seven days of the surgery.

Medical practitioners are increasingly observing similar cases among those working in office environments, especially within the IT industry. The prolonged hours of sitting, improper posture, and continuous exposure to screens contribute to stress on the cervical spine, which can culminate in conditions such as disc herniation, nerve compression, and chronic pain.

Key recommendations include maintaining proper posture, positioning screens at eye level, taking regular breaks every 30 to 60 minutes, performing neck and shoulder stretches, and avoiding extended periods of seated inactivity.
