The recent observation from satellite imagery has indicated that India’s monsoon is gaining strength, with several weather systems concurrently affecting the nation’s rainfall patterns. A deep depression located over Odisha is reportedly driving widespread rain across large areas for the upcoming days.

The latest data from the INSAT-3D satellite shows immense thundercloud formations spanning eastern, central, and northern parts of India. As this deep depression moves inland after crossing the Odisha coastline, it is anticipated to shift in a west-northwest direction through Odisha, eastern Maharashtra, southern Madhya Pradesh, southern Chhattisgarh, and northern Telangana. This system is expected to introduce a substantial volume of moisture into the atmosphere.

Meteorologists predict that the interaction between the deep depression and the prevailing monsoon flow could initiate a surge, with forecasts indicating that certain districts in the affected states might receive between 200 mm and 400 mm of rain in the next three days.

Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Several States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings concerning the ongoing rainfall, particularly over Odisha, where moderate to heavy showers are expected for the next 24 to 36 hours. This increase in rainfall could lead to localized flooding in vulnerable low-lying areas.

As the system progresses further inland, the intensity of rainfall is projected to escalate across central India before extending into the northern plains. Weather models suggest that regions such as Delhi-NCR, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of western Uttar Pradesh may experience extensive rainfall within the next day and a half, providing relief following extended periods of subpar rainfall.

Significant convective cloud patterns have been discerned over the Bay of Bengal and the Indian mainland via satellite observations. This indicates a particularly active monsoon environment potentially capable of generating thunderstorms across various regions including eastern, central, and northern India.

Rainfall Deficit Stands at 16 Per Cent

While specific states such as Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh have registered excess rainfall, other areas including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala continue to encounter deficits during this monsoon period.

Meteorologists assert that the recent weather system could progressively lessen the national rainfall deficit in the forthcoming days as the deep depression continues its trajectory inland. Should the system meet existing forecasts, it is likely to significantly enhance rainfall in central and northern India, aid in replenishing water reservoirs, support agricultural activities, and rejuvenate the monsoon across several regions experiencing rainfall deficits.
