Massive Dust Storm Engulfs Churu, Reduces Visibility to Near Zero

The CSR Journal Magazine

Reducing visibility to almost zero, a massive dust storm swept across Churu district in Rajasthan on Monday. Disturbing the traffic and creating chaos, strong winds engulfed Churu. In a filmy video, vehicles were seen slowing down to almost crawling while a dangerous dust storm approached, turning daytime into acute darkness.

It has been predicted by the Meteorological Department that Rajasthan will experience pre-monsoon weather activity across the state, starting June 16. There will be thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and scattered rainfall in many districts. This will bring some relief to the existing hot and dry conditions. This weather condition is being experienced due to the active western disturbance along with moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea.

Weather condition in Rajasthan

In the past two days, eastern and western Rajasthan has received moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms. The districts receiving rainfall are Ajmer, Kota, Tonk, Dausa, and Chittorgarh. Pink City Jaipur has also been experiencing moderate rainfall in pockets along with dust storms. Authorities have issued advisory for local commuters to be prepared as there can be sudden dust storms and strong winds.

Similar dust storm in Churu last month

On May 30, Churu experienced a similar dust storm, wind reaching 70 kmph, engulfing Churu, Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Nagaur, Sikar and surrounding areas. Visibility was reduced to a few metres and vehicles were forced to switch on the headlights in broad daylight. This caused trouble for people to function, markets were shut, power supply was cut. However, rainfall brought some relief and there was a considerable drop in the rising temperature. Over the years, the state has been experiencing multiple dust storms during the pre-monsoon season. Just like this year, last year during this time in March and April many districts of Rajasthan experienced dust storms, hailstorms and rainfall.

It is expected that the new change in weather system has been activated this week, authorities have requested locals to avoid unnecessary travel.
