Malayalam Actor Santhosh Nair Dies in Kerala Road Accident; Wife and Lorry Driver Injured

Malayalam actor Santhosh Nair died, following a road accident in Enathu, Pathanamthitta, Kerala. Reports indicate that the vehicle he was in collided with an oncoming lorry. His wife, Shubhashree, sustained injuries in the same accident, and the driver of the lorry was also injured.

Following the crash, Santhosh Nair was undergoing medical treatment when he reportedly suffered a heart attack, ultimately leading to his demise. This tragic event marks a significant loss for the Malayalam film industry, where Nair was a respected figure.

Career Highlights and Achievements

Santhosh Nair was an established actor with an extensive career that spanned several decades and included over 100 films. His debut in the Malayalam film industry came with the 1982 film Ithu Njangalude Katha, and he became well-known for his versatility, playing a wide range of roles, including villains, lead characters, supporting roles, and comedic parts.

Born on November 12, 1960, in Thiruvananthapuram, he grew up in a well-educated family. His father, CN Kesavan Nair, was a retired headmaster, while his mother, P Rajalakshmiamma, was a retired teacher. Nair spent much of his early life in Pettah and was raised by his maternal grandparents after his parents relocated to Ethiopia.

He completed his schooling at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School and pursued a degree in mathematics at Mahatma Gandhi College. During his time in college, he was active in political activities. While his sisters chose careers in medicine, Nair followed his passion for acting, which led to his successful career in cinema.

Final Works and Legacy

His latest film, Mohiniyattam, is currently screening in theatres and is positioned as his last on-screen performance. Additionally, Bharathanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam, which features actor Saiju Kurup, is set to be released digitally. The sequel opened in theatres on April 10, 2026, and is scheduled to be available for streaming on Netflix from May 8, 2026.

Directed by Krishnadas Murali, Mohiniyattam explores the challenges faced by the family of Sasidharan Nair, a focal point around which the narrative revolves. The film’s ensemble cast includes notable actors such as Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vinay Forrt, and Jagadish, further enhancing its appeal to audiences.
