Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test Postponed Amid Allegations Of Paper Leak

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) faced postponement due to allegations regarding the leak of parts of the question paper. This situation has stirred significant discontent among opposition parties, who have strongly condemned the state government. The incident follows a series of examination-related controversies, including last month’s NEET-UG issue, raising concerns about the integrity of the examination system.

The Congress party has vocally criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), labelling it as a “paper leak government.” Arvind Kejriwal, the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has also expressed his concern, suggesting that the administration’s failures extend beyond examinations to broader issues of governance, including an alleged theft linked to donations for the Ram Mandir.

On June 26, 2026, less than a day before the scheduled TET, the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) made the announcement of the exam’s postponement. This decision was based on findings from a raid in Thane, which uncovered individuals in possession of numerous questions matching those on the actual examination paper.

BJP Faces Increased Scrutiny Over Examination Integrity

The repetition of paper leak incidents has posed a significant challenge for the BJP, which has faced mounting scrutiny regarding its handling of examinations. The Congress party utilised social media to highlight its concerns, tweeting that under the BJP’s governance, such malpractice seems to be a recurrent issue. This growing sentiment points to a crisis of confidence in the government’s ability to manage public examinations effectively.

Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, has raised a critical question regarding the state of public exams in the country. His organisation has gained attention for its satirical yet serious approach to demanding accountability from government officials responsible for examination oversight. Protests have taken place, calling for a comprehensive review and reform of the examination management processes.

Further complicating matters, Kejriwal asserted that the scale of the chaos associated with these leaks implies deeper involvement from high-ranking officials. He drew parallels between the mismanagement of the education system and the ongoing issues surrounding the Ram Mandir donations, suggesting systemic corruption that extends beyond mere negligence.

Government Administration Under Fire from Various Political Leaders

Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal echoed these sentiments, stating that paper leaks have become synonymous with the current government’s failures. Additionally, representatives from the NCP (SP) expressed their concerns about the security of public examinations in light of the leaks, highlighting a broader cultural issue within the government’s operational effectiveness.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde acknowledged the gravity of the situation, promising a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the alleged leak. He stated that those found culpable, whether officials or members of organised groups, would face serious repercussions under the law. This statement comes as a reassurance that the government is taking the matter seriously, despite the widespread backlash.

With around 6 lakh candidates scheduled to take the TET, the MSCE has urged test-takers to remain informed and advised against believing in unverified rumours. They indicated that new dates for the examination would be announced in due course, assuring candidates that no additional re-registration fees would be required.
