Kim Jong-Un Blames US for Global Conflicts, Reaffirms Nuclear Policy

The CSR Journal Magazine

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has defended the continued expansion of his country’s nuclear capabilities, describing the strengthening of its nuclear forces as the only effective way to deal with an increasingly uncertain global security environment.

Speaking at a meeting of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers’ Party, Kim accused the United States of aggravating conflicts in Europe and the Middle East and said North Korea must further reinforce its strategic deterrence in response to growing regional and international tensions.

Kim Accuses US of Fueling Global Instability

According to the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim said the world was witnessing “unimaginable, astonishing incidents and events” caused by the “gangster-like” ambitions of hegemonic powers.

He said confrontations in different parts of the world were becoming increasingly violent and blamed the United States for worsening bloodshed and instability.

Kim also accused Washington and Seoul of steadily strengthening their joint military and nuclear posture, which he said was directed against North Korea and had made the security environment on the Korean Peninsula more dangerous.

North Korea Reaffirms Commitment to Nuclear Deterrence

KCNA quoted Kim as saying that expanding and strengthening North Korea’s nuclear forces remained essential in light of the increasingly complex international military and political situation.

“To steadily expand and strengthen the nuclear forces … and to thoroughly exercise the position of a nuclear weapons state is the most correct and unique way to actively and confidently cope with the unpredictable international military and political situation getting complicated in multiple ways,” Kim said.

Although KCNA did not disclose any specific measures related to the country’s nuclear programme, the remarks underscored Pyongyang’s determination to continue building its strategic capabilities despite years of international pressure.

North Korea has consistently maintained that its status as a nuclear weapons state is irreversible and has repeatedly rejected calls to abandon its nuclear programme.

Push for Advanced Conventional Weapons

Alongside the emphasis on nuclear deterrence, Kim called for the development of more sophisticated conventional weapon systems.

According to KCNA, he also directed efforts to accelerate the construction of a 10,000-ton strategic guided missile cruiser.

The move forms part of broader efforts by North Korea to modernise its military capabilities and strengthen its defence posture.

International Concerns Persist

North Korea’s latest remarks come despite years of sanctions and diplomatic initiatives aimed at persuading Pyongyang to curb its nuclear ambitions.

The country’s continued pursuit of nuclear and missile programmes remains a source of concern for South Korea, the United States and other regional powers.

Pyongyang’s insistence that its nuclear status is non-negotiable has complicated efforts to revive denuclearisation talks and continues to fuel concerns within the international community.
