Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has delivered a strong message regarding organised crime and violence in the state, asserting that the government will take stringent measures against gang activities to maintain public safety. He stated, “One thing is very clear: there is no question of allowing the unchecked activities of goons in Keralam. The people want peace and security for their lives and property.” Chennithala’s remarks come amid rising concerns over criminal activities in the region.

The Minister highlighted that certain individuals allegedly nurture and support these criminals for personal gain, cautioning that such behaviour will not be tolerated. “Nobody should think that they can use goons to protect their selfish interests,” he warned, reiterating that the law applies equally to all citizens.

Chennithala’s statements reflect a commitment to ensuring community safety, as he emphasised the need for all individuals to adhere to legal standards. His comments were reportedly prompted by the recent arrest of history-sheeter Arjun Ayanki, who was apprehended following a two-day search in Kannur.

Addressing New Forms of Criminality

The Minister specifically referenced individuals behaving as “reel goons,” asserting that no one will be allowed to engage in antisocial conduct. “Those who commit crimes should not think they can challenge the police, escape and act over-smart,” he cautioned. This statement underlines the government’s resolve to tackle various forms of crime that may arise in contemporary society.

Emphasising action against such groups, Chennithala made it clear that overconfidence among criminals will not be tolerated. “There is no need for such overconfidence or ‘over-smartness,'” he asserted, reinforcing that the police will act against those breaking the law while ensuring that innocent citizens remain unharmed.

The focus on law enforcement coordination was also apparent, as the Minister discussed the immediate response from the Cyber Cell regarding a recent complaint involving T G Mohandas. Chennithala highlighted the importance of following legal procedures before any arrest or questioning takes place, stressing that actions must undergo judicial scrutiny.

Search and Rescue Efforts in Tragic Incident

In a separate incident, Chennithala visited the family of 26-year-old fisherman Gautham Krishna, who has been missing following a fishing boat incident off Neendakara. The Minister expressed his condolences and assured that the state government would provide all necessary support to the affected family amidst their distress.

He noted that intensive search and rescue operations are currently underway, involving the participation of the Coast Guard, Navy, and scuba-diving teams. “Every possible effort is being made to trace the missing persons,” he commented, acknowledging the gravity of the situation with three family members unaccounted for.

Chennithala also mentioned the need for experienced local fishermen to assist in the search efforts, indicating a collaborative approach to the ongoing operations. As the rescue mission continues, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to offering comprehensive aid to the family during this challenging time.
