Kejriwal Announces Sita Temple and New Pilgrimage Initiatives in Punjab

The CSR Journal Magazine

On Saturday, Arvind Kejriwal unveiled various religious and cultural projects in Punjab, including the establishment of a significant temple dedicated to Mata Sita, Luv, and Kush in Amritsar. These announcements coincided with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor’s attendance at a devotional event, Ek Shaam Bhagwan Shivji Ke Naam, where he was joined by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and numerous devotees.

During the event, Kejriwal emphasised the government’s commitment to nurturing cultural practices, highlighting the ongoing staging of the play Hamare Ram and the comprehensive expansion of the Mukh Mantri Teerath Yatra Yojna. The evening featured devotional performances, including one by noted singer Hansraj Raghuvanshi, following the programme’s successful debut in Jalandhar.

Kejriwal conveyed that the spiritual gatherings, referred to as Bhajan Sandhya, marked a historic initiative in Punjab. He noted that such extensive devotional events had not been organised by any previous administration. He expressed gratitude for the community’s positive response, asserting that they aimed to reinforce public devotion through these gatherings.

Expansion of Pilgrimage Options

In his address, Kejriwal announced the enhancement of the Mukh Mantri Teerath Yatra Yojna, introducing three new routes for pilgrimage alongside existing services to Darbar Sahib and Anandpur Sahib. The new additions will include routes to Salasar and Khatu Shyam Ji, Haridwar and Rishikesh, as well as Mathura and Vrindavan.

The government plans to initiate these routes around August 1, with expectations that approximately 1.5 lakh pilgrims will participate. Kejriwal encouraged local residents to take advantage of the government’s provision, which covers all expenses related to travel, accommodation, and food, allowing devotees to solely focus on their spiritual journey.

He further described the enjoyable experience of participating in the pilgrimage, mentioning that many past pilgrims have fondly recounted their journeys as unforgettable. By integrating cultural elements such as kirtans and bhajans throughout the trips, Kejriwal underscored the holistic approach to these spiritual excursions.

Construction of the Grand Temple

Additionally, Kejriwal revealed plans for the construction of a grand temple dedicated to Mata Janaki, also known as Sita, alongside the Bhagwan Valmiki temple in Amritsar. He referenced the city as a vital spiritual centre, significant to individuals of various faiths.

He noted that Amritsar is historically linked to important events and figures, including the birthplace and education of Luv and Kush and their role in stopping the Ashwamedha Yagna horse sent by Bhagwan Ram. The announcement was made shortly after Kejriwal’s visit to Ayodhya, where he offered prayers at the Shri Ram Mandir.

In his remarks, Kejriwal expressed his satisfaction about the new initiatives, stating that the temple would not only serve as a monumental structure but also as a focal point for devotees of Bhagwan Ram and Mata Janaki worldwide. This project aims to enhance the region’s spiritual landscape, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering a rich cultural heritage.
