Kala Hiran Producer Confirms 8,000-Screen Release Amid Salman Khan’s Legal Challenge

The CSR Journal Magazine

The producer of the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, Amit Jani, has stated that despite the ongoing legal proceedings involving the film and actor Salman Khan, plans for the movie’s release remain intact. Following a recent decision by the Delhi High Court to postpone the hearing regarding Khan’s appeal, Jani expressed optimism about the film’s distribution across 8,000 cinema screens worldwide.

On the social media platform X, Jani noted that Khan did not receive any interim relief as expected from the court. He emphasised that the hearing has been adjourned until July 6, and there is no existing ban on the film’s release. In his message, he reiterated that the judicial process does not lend favour to any star or celebrity status in its decisions.

Jani’s assertion signifies his confidence in the film’s potential success, relying on a narrative that stands apart from Salman Khan’s prominence in Bollywood. He firmly states that the film will still reach audiences despite legal challenges.

Details of the Legal Proceedings

The court hearing on Khan’s appeal took place on a recent Friday, during which the filmmakers assured the Delhi High Court that neither the film nor its trailer would be made available until after the upcoming court date. Counsel for the producers clarified that only a teaser has been publicly released thus far.

During the hearings, Producer Jani’s legal representative indicated that the film has not been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for approval. When questioned about the film’s release plans, it was confirmed that no release date had been set, as certification from the CBFC is a necessary step before any public showing.

The hearing was adjourned in light of these clarifications and the court’s acknowledgment that the producers still need to submit their rebuttal documents. Future developments in this case will likely occur when the court reconvenes the following week.

Background of Salman Khan’s Case

Salman Khan initiated legal action against the creators of Kala Hiran, claiming that the storyline of the film relates to his ongoing issues concerning a blackbuck poaching incident. He has requested an immediate cessation of the film’s release and called for the removal of promotional material associated with the project.

On June 2, following a legal notification from Khan’s team, Jani vehemently rejected the assertions, clarifying that the film is drawn only from publicly accessible information and highlights the efforts of the Bishnoi community in wildlife conservation. Jani characterised the legal intimidation as premature, asserting that the film is not intended as a biographical narrative about Khan.

The producer has labelled the legal notice as unnecessary and insisted that aside from a film poster, no substantial content has yet been shared with the public. This development indicates an escalating tension between the film’s producers and the actor, with both sides preparing for continued legal discourse in the days ahead.
