Israel Says War With Iran Will Continue Until Security Goals Are Met

The CSR Journal Magazine

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated on Tuesday that the conflict with Iran will persist until both Israel and the United States deem it appropriate to bring it to a conclusion, providing no specific timeline for its end. Speaking during a joint news conference in Jerusalem with Germany’s Foreign Minister, Saar emphasized that the war will continue as long as necessary. The ongoing hostilities, which are now in their second week, have escalated following airstrikes by U.S. and Israeli forces on Iranian targets. In retaliation, Iran has launched missile and drone strikes throughout the region.

Statement on War Duration

While U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted that the conflict could conclude shortly, Saar has indicated that Israel is not operating under a concrete timeline. He reiterated that while Israel is not seeking to prolong the war indefinitely, military actions will persist until it believes that the long-term threats from Iran have been neutralized. According to Israeli officials, the primary objective is to dismantle Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities, which are considered significant threats to national security. Saar further stated that the focus is to ensure the elimination of existential threats posed by Iran.

Israeli Military Operations and Regional Implications

On Tuesday, the Israeli military reported the launching of additional airstrikes in Tehran, targeting what they described as “terror regime targets.” Additionally, Iranian military units have directed renewed missile assaults towards Israeli territory. The conflict has also spread to Lebanon, where Israeli forces are now engaged in combat with the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah. Saar mentioned that Israel believes it has made considerable progress in degrading Iran’s military capabilities. However, he stressed the importance of leveraging the current situation to deliver a decisive blow to Iran’s nuclear goals.

Call for Global Diplomatic Pressure on Iran

Saar has urged the international community to exert more diplomatic pressure on Iran by severing ties with its government. He expressed concern over Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, labeling him an extremist and outlining the persistent threat Iran poses to stability in the region. Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who is in Israel amidst the ongoing conflict, suggested that both Israel and the United States remain amenable to pursuing a diplomatic solution. However, he indicated that any agreement would necessitate Iran agreeing to limitations on its nuclear and missile endeavors and ceasing support for regional militias, conditions which Iran appears resistant to accept at this time.

Future of the Conflict

Saar indicated that the length of the conflict will be contingent upon whether Israel and its allies feel they have accomplished their strategic goals. He reiterated, “We will continue until the moment we think it is appropriate to stop,” underscoring Israel’s commitment to addressing perceived threats from Iran.
