The announcement of Aaryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid joining the India Under-19 squad for the upcoming series against Australia has garnered significant attention. The sons of revered former cricketers Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid will now have the opportunity to represent their country at the youth level. Their selections underline the continuity of cricketing talent in these celebrated families.

Aaryavir Sehwag, the son of the renowned opening batsman, has been included in the One-Day squad, while Anvay Dravid has been named as a wicketkeeper-batter in the same 15-member team. This collaboration at a national level marks a notable event in Indian cricket, showcasing the next generation of talents emerging from illustrious cricketing lineages.

Details of the Australia U19 Tour

The forthcoming Australia U19 tour will see India play three One-Day matches along with two multi-day fixtures. All One-Day matches are set to take place in Rajkot, where the first multi-day match will also be hosted. The second multi-day fixture is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad. These matches provide a vital platform for young cricketers to exhibit their skills on an international stage.

In terms of leadership, Lakshya Raichandani has been appointed as the captain of the One-Day side, while Yashbardhan Chauhan will serve as his vice-captain. Conversely, for the multi-day matches, Chauhan takes on the captaincy role with Raichandani supporting as vice-captain. The structure aims to foster teamwork and experience among emerging players.

The squads reflect a blend of talented individuals who have demonstrated their capabilities in various tournaments. The synchronisation of seasoned players and promising newcomers is anticipated to enhance the overall performance of the team.

Performance of Sehwag and Dravid’s Sons

Aaryavir Sehwag’s performance in age-group cricket has been remarkable. In the 2024 season of the Cooch Behar Trophy, he scored 297 runs off 309 balls for Delhi U19 against Meghalaya, narrowly missing a triple century. In the following year’s tournament, he accumulated a total of 496 runs, showcasing his potential as a budding cricketer.

Anvay Dravid has also made significant contributions at the India U19 level. His innings of 87 runs off 67 balls against Sri Lanka U19 in July proved crucial for India’s success, forming a vital 145-run partnership with fellow player Arjun Rajput. His consistent domestic performance during the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where he scored 220 runs in six innings, played a pivotal role in his selection for the national squad.

While the recognition associated with their surnames is evident, both Aaryavir and Anvay have been diligent in their training and performance, underscoring their readiness for this significant step in their cricketing career. The upcoming series against Australia represents a unique opportunity for both players to carve their niche in the sport.
