Israel Calls for Broader Alliance from India to Europe to Address Iran’s Military Threat

The CSR Journal Magazine

Israel advocates for establishing a comprehensive regional security structure that includes an alliance extending from India to the United States, traversing West Asia and Europe. This assertion was made by Amir Baram, the Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Defence, during his address at the Herzliya Conference held at Reichman University in Tel Aviv on 1 July 2026. Baram underscored the necessity for Israel to enhance its defence partnerships in light of escalating military capabilities in Iran.

According to Baram, the ongoing conflict has highlighted the significant implications of Iran’s military expansion, prompting a collective recognition among regional actors for the need to unite. He emphasised the importance of taking a multifaceted approach that not only involves an increase in Israel’s military capacity but also strengthens partnerships across the region and forms a new security agreement with Washington.

Baram articulated that this proposed alliance would link India through various nations including the United Arab Emirates, Greece, and Cyprus. He noted that this initiative aligns with the newly proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, revealed during the G20 Summit in New Delhi in 2023, aimed at enhancing connectivity among these regions.

Concerns Over Iran’s Military Capabilities

During his remarks, Baram raised alarms regarding international agreements that he believes could bolster Iran’s military prowess significantly. He referred specifically to recent arrangements that could facilitate the infusion of vast sums of money into Iran’s military sector, potentially accelerating its military capabilities. He indicated that such developments could pose a substantial risk to regional stability.

The official referenced a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the United States and Iran, which reportedly includes the release of billions in frozen assets for Iran alongside a substantial reconstruction plan. Baram expressed that Israel must prepare not just for military escalations but also to adapt to the emerging regional defence landscape with new allies.

He highlighted the necessity of robust military preparedness and the advancement of a new strategic architecture, particularly in collaboration with the United States. Baram articulated that although both nations share a common understanding of threats, the prioritisation of those threats differs significantly. For Israel, the threat from Iran is existential; conversely, the US perceives it as a chronic regional issue, with a greater focus on the rising influence of China and the Indo-Pacific.

Reinforcing Strategic Partnerships

Baram stated that Israel’s relationship with the United States must be based not merely on shared values but also on hard interests. He noted that the current US policy of ‘America First’ necessitates a reevaluation of how partnerships are framed, asserting that a strong and proactive Israel contributes to regional stability and allows the US to allocate resources elsewhere.

He urged for the upcoming Israel-US security agreement to deliver long-term security and economic advantages for both nations. Furthermore, he indicated that forging relationships with Gulf countries and broader alliances could provide Israel with enhanced political leverage and operational flexibility in international matters.

In conclusion, Baram called for a strategic synthesis of military readiness combined with a wide regional alliance reaching from India to Europe. This integrated approach aims to pursue a renewed security understanding with the United States that reflects not only mutual values but also practical strategic necessities. He expressed optimism that such initiatives would not only fortify Israel’s position but also diversify its strategic engagements.
