Iran has set a target to re-establish 70 to 80 per cent of its oil refining and distribution capacity to levels prior to the recent attacks within a timeframe of one to two months. This was announced by a senior officials in the oil sector, who noted that immediate repair efforts are in motion to address the damage inflicted by the latest strikes from the United States and Israel on the nation’s energy infrastructure.

Repair Efforts Underway

Deputy Minister of Oil Mohammad Sadeq Azimifar reported to the Student News Network that work has commenced with the aim of restoring operations. He indicated that a portion of the Lavan refinery located in southern Iran is expected to resume operations in approximately ten days. Each unit will be systematically brought back online over time, aligning with the overall recovery strategy.

Azimifar further stated that reconstruction teams have been promptly deployed to the most severely affected sites. Contractors were mobilised rapidly, allowing for the initiation of work focused on clear debris and replacing any damaged equipment that has hindered operational capacity.

The Lavan Island refinery is a key facility in the recovery efforts, with plans for partial operations to commence soon. This initiative is integral to a broader strategy aimed at restoring the nation’s overall production capacity following extensive damage from airstrikes.

Humanitarian Impact and Regional Tensions

Since February 28, over 3,000 fatalities have been reported as a consequence of the airstrikes conducted by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets. In retaliation, Tehran has executed strikes against Israel and military facilities in Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf nations that facilitate the presence of American armed forces. Recently, a two-week ceasefire was declared, indicating a temporary halt in hostilities.

In an attempt to reduce tensions, Iranian and American delegations engaged in prolonged discussions lasting 21 hours in Islamabad, Pakistan; however, these talks concluded without achieving any agreements.
