Iran’s Supreme Leader’s Representative Calls West Asia Conflict an Individual War

The CSR Journal Magazine

Dr Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, acting as the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in India, characterised the prolonged conflict in West Asia as an “individual war.” Speaking at a press conference in Jaipur on April 16, he alleged that Israeli leadership has sought militaristic engagement against Iran for decades. His comments come amid rising tensions in the region.

Ilahi specifically named Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asserting that Netanyahu has aimed to initiate a conflict with Iran for approximately forty years. He stated, “The Prime Minister of Israel, as he mentioned, wanted to initiate this war for 40 years against Iran. He could not convince any President of the United States in the past (to launch a war against Iran), but this time he convinced US President Trump to support him.” His remarks underscore a critical view of Israel’s strategic intentions.

Furthermore, Ilahi condemned the joint actions of the US and Israel, alleging that their diplomatic efforts have lacked sincerity. He expressed frustration over the approach taken towards negotiations, asserting, “They (US-Israel) are not serious about the negotiation.” He accused them of initiating assaults that resulted in civilian casualties and substantial damage to infrastructure in the region.

Critique of Military Strategies and Diplomatic Efforts

Continuing his address, Ilahi stated that military pressure has been ineffective in achieving strategic goals. He claimed that the US-Israel alliance ultimately turned to diplomatic negotiations as an alternate strategy but pointed out their failure in that area as well. “They wanted to achieve whatever they couldn’t achieve through war by negotiation. But they understood that through negotiation, they cannot get it,” he said, suggesting a disconnect between military and diplomatic efforts.

Ilahi also highlighted the incongruities he perceives in the approach of the US-Israel alliance, noting that their tactics indicate a prioritisation of self-interest over genuine peace efforts. He remarked, “They think that everything is a business,” reflecting a sceptical view on the sincerity of proposed negotiations.

In the context of ongoing regional strife, the remarks from Ilahi contribute to the current discourse on the complexities and challenges facing diplomatic resolutions in West Asia.

Long-standing Bilateral Relations between India and Iran

Amidst the geopolitical tensions, Ilahi also took time to acknowledge the rich historical relationship between India and Iran. He emphasised that the ties between the two nations are deeply rooted in a shared cultural and philosophical heritage spanning over 5,000 years. “Our relationship with India is rooted in 5,000 years of cultural, educational, and philosophical connections,” he remarked, indicating a belief in the strength of their bilateral relations.

Looking ahead, Ilahi expressed optimism about the trajectory of India-Iran relations, particularly post-conflict, stating that the relationship would emerge even stronger. He concluded, “The relationship between Iran and India is very strong, and after the war, it will be even stronger and deeper.” This perspective underscores a notable aspect of regional alliances amidst conflict.

Simultaneously, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf commented on the situation, suggesting that the resolution of conflicts, specifically in Lebanon, hinges on unity among resistance groups. He remarked on social media about the importance of commitment from the United States to ceasefire agreements and urged America to reconsider its policies focused on Israel.
