Iran Writes ‘Thank You India’ on Missiles Fired at Israel Amid West Asia Conflict

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a notable development during the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Iran has inscribed messages of thanks to the “people of India” on missiles aimed at Israel. Images that surfaced online, shared by the Iranian Consulate in Mumbai and various Iranian news outlets, depict members of Iran’s Aerospace Force marking missiles with blue ink to convey their appreciation. This initiative coincides with similar messages directed towards nations such as Spain, Pakistan, and Germany, suggesting an expanding outreach to countries viewed as sympathetic to the Iranian position. The missiles were launched as part of what Iran has referred to as the 83rd phase of its military operations, branded as Operation True Promise 4, executed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Targets of the Operation

According to Iranian media, the IRGC characterized these missile launches as targeting vital American and Israeli military infrastructure throughout the region. The specified targets included oil storage facilities in Ashdod and military installations near Modi’in, in addition to a US military information exchange center. The IRGC’s official statement also mentioned strikes on American bases located at Al-Dhafra and Al-Udeiri, along with facilities at the Ali Al-Salem Air Base and the Sheikh Isa Base. Iran stated that a combination of long-range and medium-range missiles, precision-strike systems, and drones were deployed during these operations, which were claimed to have concluded successfully.

Context for India’s Mention

The mention of India in this context arises amid recent events that reflect a warmer diplomatic engagement between Iran and India during the ongoing conflict. Iran has allowed safe passage for Indian vessels through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz while continuing to impose restrictions on ships associated with the United States and its allies. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi identified India as one of a select group of nations designated as “friendly,” whose vessels would not face obstruction despite prevailing tensions in the region.

Humanitarian Efforts from India

Another element contributing to Iran’s messages appears to be the humanitarian assistance extended by various groups within India, particularly from Kashmir. In the past few weeks, civilians in parts of Jammu and Kashmir have organized fundraising initiatives to support individuals affected by the conflict in Iran. Donations have included cash, jewelry, and essential household goods, showcasing personal sacrifices made by contributors. Notably, one widely circulated narrative described a Kashmiri woman who donated gold that had been kept for nearly three decades in memory of her deceased husband. The Iranian Embassy in India publicly expressed gratitude for these charitable deeds, emphasizing the significance of the support offered.

India’s Diplomatic Balancing Act

This situation underscores India’s complex diplomatic stance—striving to address the humanitarian sentiments expressed by its citizens, maintaining historical relations with Iran, while simultaneously navigating its broader diplomatic ties with the United States and Israel. India has condemned the escalation in the Middle East, consistently advocating for dialogue and diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict that has unfolded since the US and Israel’s military actions against Iran, which commenced on February 28.
