Investigation Into NEET UG 2026 Leak Examines Maharashtra’s ‘M Sir’

The CSR Journal Magazine

The ongoing investigation into the NEET 2026 paper leak includes scrutiny of Shivraj Motegaonkar, fondly known as “M Sir,” who established one of Maharashtra’s largest coaching institutes. Once a humble tutor in Latur, he has transitioned into a significant figure in the educational landscape. With a background as a chemistry teacher, he has made a considerable impact on students preparing for various competitive examinations.

Rise of RCC Classes

Motegaonkar’s journey began from modest beginnings in Latur, Maharashtra, where he offered private tuition while cycling across the city. His teaching career started in the late 1990s when he taught about ten students in a rented classroom. He became well-known for his dedication to teaching and creating personalised handwritten notes, particularly for students preparing for the NEET and JEE examinations.

As interest in coaching grew, so did Motegaonkar’s institute, the Renukai Career Centre (RCC Classes). It expanded beyond Latur, establishing branches in various cities like Pune, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nanded, Solapur, and Kolhapur. Reports indicate that around 40,000 students enrol annually in the various programmes offered by RCC Classes. This expansion marked the rise of the so-called “Latur Pattern,” associated with impressive academic results in both board exams and competitive tests.

RCC Classes has adapted to contemporary educational demands with an online presence. It engages students through YouTube, WhatsApp groups, mobile applications, and social media, boasting over 66,000 followers on Instagram. The institute is recognised for quality study materials, test series, and mentorship programmes aimed at aspiring NEET and JEE candidates.

Current Investigation Status

As part of the investigation into the NEET paper leak, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned Motegaonkar for several days. However, he has not been arrested in connection with this case. The probing focus is on his alleged professional links to PV Kulkarni, a retired chemistry professor who has been arrested for his suspected involvement in the paper leak.

Reports indicate that Kulkarni previously taught at RCC Classes, prompting investigators to explore whether their professional association has any relevance to the ongoing investigation. While the CBI has not publicly disclosed specific details regarding the nature of the questioning or any findings tied to Motegaonkar, the investigation remains active with various leads being examined.

The NEET 2026 leak investigation has far-reaching implications, with authorities examining connections between multiple coaching institutes and individuals allegedly linked to the leak. Investigators are carefully assessing evidence to determine the extent of these associations, which may influence future legal actions.

Impact on Students and Educational Community

“M Sir” has emerged as a well-known name among students in Maharashtra, often associated with success in chemistry coaching. The current investigation has shifted the focus from educational achievements to serious questions about integrity within the coaching industry. With the probe expanding, the educational community is observing developments closely, mindful of the implications for both students and educators.

Authorities have reiterated that the investigation is ongoing, and further actions will depend on the evidence collected. As students continue to study and prepare for their examinations, the educational environment surrounding them has been significantly affected by this unfolding situation. The outcome of this scrutiny may lead to broader changes within the coaching sector, emphasising the importance of ethical practices in education.
