The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian Embassy in Oman has confirmed its awareness of yet another maritime incident involving a vessel near the Shinas port. This announcement came on Thursday, with officials stating that they are closely observing the situation and are in coordination with local authorities in Oman for more information.

The embassy communicated its findings through a post on the social media platform X, emphasizing its commitment to monitoring developments in the region amid ongoing maritime security concerns. The situation is being treated with vigilance, particularly following recent events that have affected Indian nationals at sea.

Three Indian Crew Members Confirmed Dead After US Strike

This latest incident occurs just one day after the loss of three Indian seafarers who were confirmed dead following a US military strike on the tanker Settebello in the Gulf of Oman. This event resulted in significant diplomatic reactions from the Indian government, which expressed its distress over the situation.

Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced the demise of the crew members, who had been reported missing prior to the confirmation. The Indian government promptly summoned the US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks to lodge an official protest against the military action that resulted in the loss of life.

In a subsequent statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian government condemned the strike against the vessel. According to the Ministry, there were 24 Indians aboard the tanker, of whom 21 were rescued while three sadly remained unaccounted for until their fatalities were confirmed. The Ministry described the ongoing attacks on maritime vessels in the region as “deeply worrisome” and linked these actions to broader regional conflicts.

Details of the Latest Incident Remain Unclear

As yet, there is limited information regarding the vessel involved in the recent incident near Shinas port. Key details such as its identity, crew composition, and the specific circumstances of the reported emergency have not been disclosed.

The Indian Embassy, along with Omani authorities, is actively gathering information to better understand the incident. The urgency of the situation underscores the importance of maritime security in the Gulf, especially in light of recent escalations in naval conflicts in the area.

Further updates are anticipated as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and its implications for the safety of maritime navigation in the region. Both the Indian government and local officials are prioritising the welfare and security of their nationals involved in maritime activities.
