The CSR Journal Magazine

In a remarkable display at the Asia Cup 2026 archery Stage I tournament held in Bangkok, India emerged as a dominant force, particularly in the men’s individual compound category. On Friday, Uday Kamboj triumphed over Asian Games medalist Prathamesh Jawkar with a score of 145-144, clinching the gold medal in an all-Indian final. In a closely contested match, Rajat Chauhan also secured a position on the podium by narrowly defeating Thailand’s Peerawat Rattanapongkiat, finishing with the same score of 145-144. Uday initially trailed Prathamesh 57-59 after the second end but executed a perfect score of 30 in the third end, allowing him to establish a lead by the fourth end and secure victory.

Women’s Individual Compound Event

The success extended to the women’s category, where Tejal Salve claimed victory in the individual compound event, defeating Mariia Dimidiuk 144-135. Tejal’s performance was notably impressive, as she only missed six points across 15 arrows, highlighting her skill and consistency throughout the match.

Mixed and Women’s Team Events Shine

India’s strong performance continued into the team events, where they achieved both gold and silver medals in the mixed and women’s categories, respectively. In the mixed team compound event, which will make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles 2028, the Indian duo of Chikitha Taniparthi and Rajat Chauhan claimed gold by defeating Malaysia’s pair, Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh and Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki, with a score of 158-156. The Indian team displayed remarkable precision, dropping just two points over 16 arrows, while their opponents dropped four. Their initial flawless performance, including four consecutive 10s, allowed them to maintain a competitive edge despite challenges faced during the match. By the end of three ends, India led by a single point at 118-117, but they secured their win with a strong final round, scoring four consecutive 10s while Malaysia could only score 39.

Close Finish in Women’s Team Competition

In the women’s team event, Chikitha Taniparthi, Raj Kaur, and Tejal Salve narrowly missed out on gold, finishing with a silver medal after losing 227-229 to Kazakhstan’s team, consisting of Viktoriya Lyan, Diana Yunussova, and Roxana Yunussova. The Indian team started strong, leading 115-113 midway through the match. However, a subpar third end, where they scored 54 against Kazakhstan’s 58, allowed their opponents to regain the lead and eventually secure victory.
