Hyderabad to Become India’s Premier Bullet Train Hub with 3 New Corridors: Ashwini Vaishnaw

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday unveiled plans that will position Hyderabad as a high-speed hub. He revealed the introduction of three significant bullet train corridors aimed at integrating the economies of Telangana and transforming its urban landscape. These developments are part of a substantial railway budget of Rs 5,400 crore allocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Vaishnaw briefed reporters following the HYSEA GCCS & IT Roundtable held at the Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre. He emphasised that the new corridors—connecting Pune to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Chennai, and Hyderabad to Bengaluru—are expected to bring major benefits to the region. The Minister described this initiative as a game-changer for Hyderabad and its neighbouring areas.

Impact on Regional Development and Technology Growth

During his address, Vaishnaw highlighted the technology sector’s growth in Telangana, noting that the region has substantially benefited from the Government of India’s electronics manufacturing programmes. He mentioned that over one hundred electronics manufacturing firms have been encouraged to set up operations in Telangana, contributing significantly to local economic development.

Furthermore, the Minister reaffirmed the transformative effect of the Rs 5,400 crore railway budget, asserting that it would drive significant changes in the state’s railway network. He also provided insights into the “Nav-Nirmaan” initiative, which focuses on the redevelopment of railway stations across India, highlighting the completion of 261 stations at an accelerated pace.

Vaishnaw specifically pointed out the redevelopment of key stations including Secunderabad, Begumpet, and HITEC City, affirming that these projects are crucial for the region’s infrastructure enhancement. He publicly acknowledged the presence of Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy and BJP State President N Ramchander Rao during the event, underscoring the collaborative effort in these developmental initiatives.

Ongoing Developments and Future Plans

Focusing on the transformation of the iconic Secunderabad station, Vaishnaw detailed the challenges involved in the ongoing development, especially with respect to maintaining regular train service. He mentioned that while many global railway upgrades lead to traffic stoppages, the current project aims to maintain functionality while construction continues, including the construction of an air concourse over the platforms.

The Minister also contrasted the current efforts with those of previous administrations, claiming that prior governments had only made superficial changes. In a statement, he affirmed that comprehensive renovations were necessary and that the current administration had taken on the challenge of fully transforming 1,300 stations. He outlined a clear roadmap with the goal of completing 400 stations by year-end and reaching 700 by the end of next year.

Regarding the progress in Telangana, Vaishnaw announced that significant stations are prepared for public use. He stated that Begumpet station is set for an imminent inauguration, and mentioned that HITEC City has already been completed. Ongoing redevelopment works at Hyderabad (Nampally), Kazipet Junction, and Malakpet stations were also brought to the forefront of his address, signalling a commitment to enhancing rail infrastructure in the region.
